Role Summary

The Sr. Range & Efficiency (R&E) Development Engineer supports the R&E Attributes process from initial target setting to final vehicle level validation sign off. DVP creation, test planning, vehicle preparation and data analysis are part of the daily activities for this role. High focus on benchmarking activity and real world customer fleet analysis is part of this role for supporting the Attribute target definition. Support chamber, proving grounds and on-road testing for R&E Attributes and through hardware/software development. Lead new development process activities to bring efficiency in testing methodologies. Manage opening and closure of engineering concerns and issues throughout the vehicle life.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for scheduling test tracks, internal and external dynamometers and prioritizing use of resources to meet tight, changing development deadlines.
  • Execute vehicle level static and dynamic efficiency test activities per test plans developed in collaboration with key internal stakeholders and external resources.
  • Run vehicle test procedures using hub and chassis dynamometer and complete post processing and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with functional, thermal and powertrain teams to validate HV and LV consumption at vehicle level.
  • Responsible for instrument vehicles with the necessary data acquisition hardware for data collection.
  • Work closely with software and hardware teams to make sure representative vehicles are being tested.
  • Update DVP timing and vehicle test blocks for different assets during the development phase.
  • Responsible for retrieving, storing, and sharing of logged data from tests with different teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, provide input and engineering analysis to development teams.
  • Conduct benchmarking with competitive vehicles for range and efficiency attributes.
  • Responsible for interpreting regulations and test procedures in collaboration with the homologation team.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Hands-on knowledge of range testing procedures, of coast-down testing as well as of dynamometer testing.
  • Capability to manage multiple tests activities in parallel for different programs.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Experience in data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Experience in battery powered electric vehicles and powertrains.
  • Experience in debugging and resolving hardware and software issues at vehicle level.
  • Understanding of measurement equipment maintenance and calibration, upgrades, and improvements (mechanical, electrical, or software-based) required to optimize efficiency.
  • Ability to instrument a vehicle and operate data acquisition systems such as CANalyzer & Hioki for data collection.
  • Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • A strong desire to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a very capable team.

Preferred:

  • Additional fields of experience (thermal, electrical, structural statics/dynamics, material science).
  • Experience of electric vehicle drive units testing.
  • Experience with vehicle controls and power electronics.
  • Experience of optimization methods and software.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $121,500.00 - $151,900.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
