Job Description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Missouri S&T is seeking an electronics technician to serve various roles, including setting up and maintaining the instructional lab equipment at the MSU campus, based on the course schedule. The technician will also be responsible for assisting in the development of new equipment and experiment systems for the mechanical engineering cooperative program at MSU. As time allows, the technician will assist in development, construction and maintenance of both instructional lab and research lab equipment for the S&T campus Mechanical and Aerospace department. Therefore, the successful candidate must be a motivated, independent, electronics technician capable of handling multiple tasks and projects in multiple locations.

This position will require frequent travel to the MSU campus labs and coordination between his duties on the two campuses.

Primary duties and attributes:

  • Work as part of a team to construct, install, set-up and maintain instructional and research lab equipment in the Mechanical Engineering department, in labs both on the S&T campus and on the MSU campus
  • Have some mechanical skills as well as a good base in electronics and computers
  • Schedule tasks to ensure that experiments are set up and ready to run at the appropriate time and that all the required materials and supplies are in place
  • Work on construction, updating, troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of laboratory equipment from simple mechanical systems to delicate electronic instrumentation to CNC machine tooling to laser systems, and everything in between
  • Spend time both on the S&T campus and the MSU campus (Plaster center) each week. The amount of time will be dependent on what is going on at any one time, but expect to go to Springfield at least one day per week
  • Work directly with students and faculty to evaluate problems and suggest and implement solutions to complex problems
  • Assist with development, construction, installation and maintenance of instructional and research laboratory equipment as directed
Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $16.72 to $22.91 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
