Job Description Summary: Provides face-to-face and telephonic nutritional coaching to review individual health goals and develop plans for improvement. Explain nutrition issues to clients, assess the dietary and health needs of clients, develop meal plans for clients, gauge the effects of meal plans, promote nutrition by counseling individuals and groups on nutritional practices designed to prevent disease and promote good health.   • Ensures excellent service and satisfaction to our customers through ongoing, nutritional coaching as part of the A Healthier You Program.
  • Provide explanations for food and nutrition issues
  • Establish proper meal plans for the member in accordance with their preference, health, and financial capabilities
  • Evaluate the health and diet needs of members
  • Offer advice on diet-related concerns such as weight loss or cholesterol reduction
  • Assesses and reviews current level of health and individual's goals for improvement. Develop a plan for improvement and a strategy for present and future changes or progress. Identify limiting risk factors and social, emotional, or environmental barriers to change.
  • Implements coaching through the same motivational interviewing techniques used in telephonic coaching and builds on it though a face-to-face relationship. Monitors progress monthly through individual self-reporting.
  • Evaluates progress of individual based on individualized goals and plans for change. Individualized goals will be comprehensively worked to decrease barriers to the member's progress. Functions as a member advocate on the member's behalf within the member's benefit and network structures.
  • Refers members to the appropriate case or disease management programs for intervention as necessary. Also services as a facilitator to appropriately refer members to other service areas within BCBSKC as well as to external/community resources.
  • Provides nutrition education classes to groups. Prepares educational materials for use in presentations. Utilizes creative audiovisual aids in presentations. Delivers presentations with a high level of enthusiasm. Actively engages learners in the educational process. Conducts ongoing evaluation of classes and modifies materials as appropriate.
  • Obtains and maintains knowledge of business goals and progress toward accomplishment of goals, and works collaboratively with peers to meet or exceed yearly departmental targets.
  • Reads, understands and follows medical policy and all corporate, division and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of continuous quality improvement and takes the initiative to identify and be actively involved in improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics and nutrition.
  • Registered Dietitian Licensed in Missouri and Kansas.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with healthy lifestyle coaching for weight management, tobacco cessation, nutrition, physical activity and/or stress management.
  • Experience in facilitating client positive behavioral change.
  • 1 year of experience developing, facilitating and presenting nutritional programs to groups and individuals.
  • Strong customer relations/sales skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent group facilitation/presentation skills.
  • Excellent phone skills.
