Job Summary

The CO Mapping Array Project (COMAP) is a Caltech radio astronomy experiment based at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. It is pioneering a new observational technique to survey the global properties of galaxies 11 billion years in the past. This experiment generates a large amount of data and continuous monitoring of the data quality and status of the observing system is a challenge.

An existing web-based database front-end is currently used for this purpose, but is in need of upgrading to increase the speed of access to information and to add additional capabilities.

Essential Job Duties
  • Working with an existing new backend code base that has been developed but not fully implemented.
  • Building a new frontend that replicates the original functionality as well as adding the necessary improvements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Has taken undergraduate introductory courses in circuitry and electronics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in (or demonstrated ability to quickly learn) the following areas:
    • python
    • typescript
    • relational databases (mysql/mariadb)
    • web backend frameworks (django)
    • web frontend frameworks (React, nextjs).

Hiring Range

$18.50 - $21.25 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
