Job Summary The CO Mapping Array Project (COMAP) is a Caltech radio astronomy experiment based at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. It is pioneering a new observational technique to survey the global properties of galaxies 11 billion years in the past. This experiment generates a large amount of data and continuous monitoring of the data quality and status of the observing system is a challenge. An existing web-based database front-end is currently used for this purpose, but is in need of upgrading to increase the speed of access to information and to add additional capabilities. Essential Job Duties Working with an existing new backend code base that has been developed but not fully implemented. Building a new frontend that replicates the original functionality as well as adding the necessary improvements. Basic Qualifications Has taken undergraduate introductory courses in circuitry and electronics. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience in (or demonstrated ability to quickly learn) the following areas: python typescript relational databases (mysql/mariadb) web backend frameworks (django) web frontend frameworks (React, nextjs). Hiring Range $18.50 - $21.25 Per Hour The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
