Securian Financial is seeking a licensed physician who integrates clinical expertise with insurance principles to assess mortality and morbidity risks, guide underwriting decisions, evaluate claims, and contribute to the development of risk management strategies and underwriting guidelines. Securian is open to this position having an FTE between 0.8 - 1.0 (32 to 40 hours per week). Position is fully virtual with ability to travel to the Securian Financial Home Office in St. Paul, MN at minimum twice per year. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Identify medical information relevant for claims and UW reviews, provide advanced medical knowledge and training for underwriters and claims examiners Provide decisions for UW and claims based on solid medical knowledge consistent with current guidelines, demonstrate ability to incorporate new medical knowledge into guideline updates and enhancements, includes advanced proficiency in ECG interpretation Keep current with general medical literature, develop subjects of special interest Identify relevant medical topics, medical advances and emerging risks, provide concise relevant updates for stakeholders Continue to develop business acumen, be proactive in identifying medical and UW-related opportunities and trends, contribute to fair risk assessment initiatives Ability and enthusiasm for teaching underwriters on medical topics, and engage with them through case discussions. Be visibly involved in the insurance medicine community and complete AAIM Diplomate Board of Insurance Medicine (DBIM) certification Qualifications: MD or DO with 5+ years clinical experience Preferred Qualifications: MD (or DO) with active US medical license 5+ years experience in insurance medicine, Board of insurance medicine candidate and/or working towards DBIM Internal Securian Financial job title for this position is Medical Sr. Consultant The estimated base pay range for this job is $207,000 - $280,500. Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. This job may also be eligible for a performance-based incentive program.
