Summary
The Paramedic provides patient care and performs unit activities under the direction of an Emergency Provider. Works in collaboration with Registered Nurses and other members of the care team in providing direct patient care activities including clinical assessment, obtaining vital signs, and assisting patients in need of emergency interventions. This also includes, but is not limited to, other activities such as coordinating equipment, providing transportation activities to testing, care areas, and performing tasks specific to the department assigned. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Performs patient assessment, observation, treatment, and reassessment. -Obtains vital signs; performs finger stick glucose testing, and specimen collections; measures patient's height and weight; records intake and output. Reports significant changes to the Registered Nurse & Emergency Physician as appropriate -Documents appropriate assessment, interventions, and other pertinent patient information in a timely manner. -Establishes peripheral IV access and initiates infusions, establishes IO access, and adminsters medications within state and hospital guidelines. -Perform EKG's, recognize arrhythmias, and, under the direction of an MD, perform defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, and/or transcutaneous pacing -Provide respiratory support, including oxygen administration via nasal cannula, facemask, nebulizer, and bag-valve mask (BVM) -Lift and transports patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, isolette, crib, or escorts to various areas within the Hospital Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support [ACLS (AHA)] - American Heart Association (AHA) preferred Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Prehospital Trauma Life Support [PHTLS] - National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians preferred Nationally Registered Paramedic [NRP] - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) preferred Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification [PALS] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred Experience EMT/Paramedic experience 1-2 years preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Excellent communication skills. - Strong patient/customer service skill. - Excellent crisis intervention skills. - Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
