Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director - Government and Community Affairs - Long Island.

In this role, the Government and Community Affairs Director will work closely with community and county government in Long Island. This role is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the smooth operations of the Departments community affairs, particularly in Nassau/Suffolk County, in alignment with institutional objectives.

Working under the direction of the Government & Community Affairs Vice President, the Government and Community Affairs, Long Island Director will represent NYU Langone Health to government officials, government agencies, county legislatures, towns, associations and community groups. The Government and Community Affairs Long Island Director will advocate for NYU Langone Healths institutional objectives and will assist in enhancing a positive reputation on Long Island. They will also be responsible for hiring and managing a team that drives partnerships and stakeholder engagement with community organizations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent NYU Langone Health positively to Long Island government officials, government agencies, county executives, town supervisors, mayors, community groups and associations.
  • Advocate for NYU Langone Healths approved institutional objectives and work to develop a positive reputation in the government and community arenas, including local legislatures.
  • Work with NYULH Long Island leadership, real estate, communications, and outside consultants on preparing for the launch of a new hospital.
  • Hire and manage a Government and Community Affairs Senior Manager - Long Island, and Government and Community Affairs Coordinator Long Island to help drive key partnerships and stakeholder engagement with community organizations and elected officials.
  • Hire and manage Government and Community Affairs Long Island Manager, Community Affairs Long Island Coordinator and student interns, as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of the Annual Community Report and the monthly Community Bulletins.
  • Prepare presentations (including External Affairs) and reports for leadership on Government and Community Affairs.
  • Be the primary liaison to internal department(s), as determined by the Government and Community Affairs Vice President.
  • Follow up with relevant County agencies. Set up meetings with the public officials and relevant faculty to discuss proposed grants and other possible funding opportunities, approved by leadership.
  • Manage the Community Affairs sponsorship and membership organization budget for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as it relates to issues and policies that are important to NYU Langone Health.
  • Prepare correspondence for public officials and their staff regarding local issues, legislation and regulations, and casework, in areas of importance to NYU Langone Health.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments for meetings with public officials in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to legislation and regulations, and casework and other activities of the Government and Community Affairs team.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and calls with associations, councils, committees, community groups and government entities.
  • Coordinate the preparation, operation and follow-up for special events and visits by public officials.
  • Attend community group meetings relevant to the institution coordinate/participate in community health fairs and other events.
  • Assist with briefings, research and scheduling for medical students and residents for their health policy programs.
  • Support the Government and Community Affairs Vice President with health care issues, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree with seven to ten years of experience in community affairs or government relations position.
Must have strong writing and communications skills.
Must be highly organized, pay attention to detail and be a strategic thinker.
Must know how state and local governments work on Long Island.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Public Policy or Public Administration preferred

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $117,107.95 - $145,530.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
