Essential Functions:
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
- Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
- Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
- Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Experience:
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment. 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.


The Venkatesh Lab is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Lab Tech I to contribute to ongoing research projects in cancer neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, a strong academic background in biology, biomedical engineering or a related field, and excellent communication skills. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to publications and presentations.

Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Research (60%):

  • Perform laboratory techniques such as qPCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, genotyping, primary cell culturing, and sterile technique.
  • Conduct brain and spleen mouse dissection, microglia isolation, and tissue mounting.
  • Operate equipment such as confocal microscopes, slide scanners, and other imaging tools.
  • Learn, master, and implement surgical techniques commonly used in preclinical models.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and results.

2. Data Analysis (20%):

  • Analyze data using software such as ImageJ, Qupath, and other relevant tools.
  • Prepare figures and tables for publications and presentations.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of results and discussion of findings.

3. Collaboration and Communication (15%):

  • Work closely with research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
  • Attend and contribute to lab meetings and research discussions.
  • Present findings at internal lab meetings and potentially at external conferences.

4. Lab Upkeep (5%):

  • Manage laboratory inventories, including ordering reagents and maintaining stock levels of commonly used consumables.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with institutional biosafety, animal care, and chemical safety regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications and research proposals.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and sterile technique.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as Prism, MATLAB, and ImageJ.
  • Previous research experience in neuroscience, cancer biology, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality research.
