JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining sampling equipment, stocking vehicles with sampling supplies and equipment, managing inventory levels and keeping supply and equipment performance records. Distributes equipment and supplies to team members as requested. Assists in the installation of sampling equipment and collection of wastewater samples from industrial and commercial facilities. Strictly adheres to quality assurance and quality control standards when completing all job responsibilities. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Maintains department meters such as 4-gas, PID, Lumex, Sondes, water quality meters etc. Performs routine calibrations and bump tests in accordance with standard operating procedures and prescribed schedules. Documents and maintains both paper and electronic logs for all maintenance activity.

- Installs various types of sampling and monitoring equipment including but not limited to automatic samplers, flow monitoring devices and pH dataloggers.

- Collects and preserves samples of effluent discharges for chemical, physical and bacteriological parameters. Prepares sampling paperwork including chain of custody, labels, laboratory analysis sheet, sample request form and tracking and monitoring forms.

- Maintains all battery-operated field equipment and logs usage. Ensures an adequate supply of equipment is available at all times.

- Cleans sampling equipment according to standard operating procedures. Maintains records for cleaning, including lot numbers for all associated sampling supplies (Hoses, pump tubes, sample bottles, sample poles etc.) in accordance with QA/QC standards. Assigns sampling equipment to staff as requested. Maintains and distributes other stock/non-stock sampling supplies.

- Maintains equipment preparation and storage area. Ensures all equipment is inventoried and available to be assigned for use in the field. Properly disposes of waste samples or wastes generated in wash area according to sustainability best practices. Properly stores reagents and chemicals used in the equipment preparation and storage area.

- Documents activities and findings. Compiles and collates information. Files records and reports and enters data into electronic information management systems.

- Coordinates equipment requirements with other departments such as Analytical Services, Operation & Maintenance (O&M), Engineering & Construction (E&C) etc. Orders equipment from contract laboratories when necessary.

- Repairs equipment and/or coordinates equipment repair by appropriate vendors.

- Conducts vehicle inspections and vehicle equipment logs to ensure vehicles are properly equipped for field activities. Maintains inventory of supplies on the HazMat trailer. Performs remote site equipment inventory and preventative maintenance to ensure sites are properly supplied.

- Maintains self-contained breathing apparatus and SCBA oxygen bottles. Performs and logs monthly safety inspections. Takes oxygen bottles to refilling station. Maintains all department emergency eye wash stations and emergency showers by performing and logging monthly tests.

- Assists with maintenance of facility records and files in the WQIS file and map rooms and secondary record storage area. Maintains paper files, electronic records and information systems. Ensures records are maintained in accordance with the Sewer District's Records Management Policy.

- Assists with decision making based on circumstances in the field. Keeps abreast of regulations and new developments in the field. Observes safe work practices.

- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

- Candidate must possess an associate degree preferably in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or closely a related field.

- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as outlined in the Education Equivalencies Policy.

EXPERIENCE

- No prior experience required.

- One (1) year of experience in a position that performed field sampling and/or maintaining monitoring equipment preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

- Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District's acceptable guidelines.

- Candidate must obtain a certificate of completion of the Standard Multimedia First Aid Course and CPR certification within one year of employment and be recertified as required.

- Candidate must possess a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification within one year of employment and be recertified as required.

- Candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.

- Candidate must possess negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to address issues and opportunities for improvement.

- Candidate must possess the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, establish and maintain effective working relationships and prioritize workloads based on available resources.

- Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

During the course of performing the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to analyze, communicate, comprehend, coordinate, make decisions, possess general intelligence, interact, interpret, negotiate, possess numerical intelligence, organize, problem solve, have resilience and perform tasks. Physical work will need to be performed, such as balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, driving, feeling, kneeling/squatting, reaching, sitting, standing, talking, typing and walking. Repetitive movements will need to be performed such as simple grasping, power grasping and fine manipulation with both hands. Ability to push, pull and lift from floor to waist, waist to shoulder or floor to shoulder up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis may be necessary. Position will require visual demands of accommodation, color vision, depth perception, far acuity and near acuity. Ability to withstand extremely loud noise exposure for fifteen minutes or longer on an infrequent basis is required. Exposure to environmental conditions such as respiratory hazards, extreme cold/heat (non-weather related), outdoor work, wet/humid conditions, work around large machinery and work at heights is encountered in this position.

Pay Range: USD, Commensurate with Experience

$24.71 - $29.64
