Medical Scribe (Temporary) - Ophthalmology, Westwood

Description As a Medical Scribe, you will assist providers in the Cornea & Uveitis division with various administrative aspects of patient care. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Record patient history, exam findings, progress notes, procedure notes
  • Pre-chart of upcoming new and established patients
  • Follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results
  • Provide some patient education and process medication refill requests under the supervision of the physician
  • Assist office staff in abstracting, scanning, and cataloging records
Salary Range: $22.85-32.03 Hourly
This is a part-time temporary position scheduled to end in 12 months. May convert to Career.
Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).
1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of "health care services," which means "patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care".
2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.
Qualifications Required:
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills including knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology to establish effective working relations with all levels of university staff, faculty, trainees, and patients.
  • Demonstrated or acquired competency in office and medical center based data and electronic records systems (ChartLogic, cView, Kaleidoscope, Epic, PCIMS, CDS, etc.).
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under a variable but often very busy workload.
  • Ability to type quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to function in a research environment with patients who are enrolled in clinical study protocols.
  • Ability to learn new routines quickly, to follow routines consistently, and identify better ways of accomplishing routine tasks.
  • Proficiency in Apple and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Word and Excel, email, calendaring programs, and web browsers.
Preferred:
  • Previous experience as a scribe.
