The George Mason University Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution is committed to interrupting the cycles of violence through rigorous academic programs and innovative work in the field.
About the Position:
The Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution is seeking a part-time Operations Assistant. Reporting to the Director of Technology & Operations, this individual will serve as the school's primary point of contact and office administrator at the Mason Square, Arlington, VA campus.
This is an in-person position.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Carter School front office by greeting and assisting visitors, monitoring and responding to communication, and directing prospective and current students to appropriate resources;
- Receive and reply to general phone and email inquiries and visitor requests, forwarding communication to appropriate individuals and/or resources;
- Manage deliveries and mail (to include receiving incoming/outgoing mail, packages, etc.);
- Liaise with facilities personnel and property management to initiate maintenance and related requests including key, signage, and other service requests;
- Monitor office supply inventory and initiate orders as required;
- Assist with records management and provide access to library resources;
- Provide AV assistance for Carter School conference rooms;
- Serve as back-stop to the events staff by providing support for events and room reservations;
- Support the Events Manager with large in-person events at the Arlington campus; and
- Other administrative support duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Superior communication skills, both spoken and written;
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to respond to tasks with a sense of urgency and to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively;
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and accuracy driven;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, follow direction, and take initiative;
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, integrity, diplomacy, and tact; and
- Proficiency in MS Office and willingness to learn new programs as needed.
