Overview

The Survey Manager is:

Responsible for understanding state regulation governing land surveying practice. Comprehension of ALTA Surveys with an emphasis on topographic features and engineering design alignment. Facilitate meetings and maintain a high level of communication with office management and project teams. This position acts as the lead and subject matter expert on-site for any project survey related items. Mentor junior technicians while implementing best practices and standard operating procedures allowing growth and success in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Survey leadership and Engineering to understand surveying requirements on site
  • Develop comprehensive survey plans, considering project scope, timelines, and budget constraints
  • Coordinate with Survey leadership to ensure proper equipment, resources, and personnel are allocated appropriately
  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure survey activities align with project specifications
  • Monitor and supervise surveying teams to guarantee accuracy and adherence to industry standards
  • Address and resolve any survey-related issues that may arise during construction
  • Stay well-informed of local, state, and federal regulations related to land surveying
  • Ensure all surveying activities comply with relevant laws, codes, and safety standards
  • Partner with Survey leadership to obtain necessary permits and approvals for surveying operations
  • Oversee the collection of survey data and review all internal and external processed analyses
  • Generate detailed reports summarizing survey findings and providing actionable insights
  • Present survey results to project management in a clear and understandable manner
  • Foster effective communication between surveying teams, engineering teams, and project management
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate survey data into project plans
  • Provide regular updates on surveying progress, challenges, and solutions to project team and Survey leadership
  • Plan daily work for site survey crew

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in surveying, remote sensing, drafting, engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • Five years of survey experience in construction or operations with exposure to engineering, civil, renewable energy activities
  • Certified Survey Technician (CST) I preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company's Zero Injury principles
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Computer literacy and well-developed file management
  • Advanced comprehension of ALTA Surveys, and various schematics
  • Advanced understanding of surveying software e.g. Trimble Business Center, MAGNET Office, or Civil 3D
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams effectively
  • Ability to train and mentor Survey Technicians
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Entry level experience working in the construction field
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Must have a desire to develop knowledge of layout and survey work
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
  • HOURS: This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
  • TRAVEL: Travel required up to 100%.
  • Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location.
