Position Description:

The Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor with a focus on teaching classes on comparative politics and social media. The Department welcomes applications from candidates in the subfield of Comparative Politics. Candidates must be able to teach introductory courses on comparative politics, social media and politics, and European politics. The department requires that a candidate have received their PhD at the time of application, has preference for candidates that have experience working with our learning management system, ICON, and has a preference for candidates that have experience teaching research methods to undergraduate students.

The position will begin on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, three working days prior to the start of the fall 2025 semester.

Education Requirement:


  • PhD in Political Science or Government at time of application.


Required Qualifications:


  • Has a primary research and teaching specialty in Comparative Politics.
  • Has a primary research and teaching specialty in Media and Politics.
  • Ability to teach introductory courses in comparative politics and social media and politics.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Has experience working with our learning management system, ICON.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach research skills to undergraduate students.
  • Can teach introductory class on European Politics.
