Job Title: Data Manager, Lead

Job Summary: The Data Manager, Lead will oversee all data management, data sharing, portal development, program coordination, and training initiatives as outlined in the clients program requirements. This is a strategic and technical leadership role responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, interoperability, and sharing of data, while supporting collaboration across a diverse research network.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management, Analysis, and Sharing



  • Operate and maintain a scalable, flexible data management system for collection, storage, quality control, analysis, sharing, and retrieval of all client program data and metadata.





  • Ensure system interoperability with NIH-standardized resources such as ImmPort, IEDB, CEIRR, and others.





  • Implement FISMA and HIPAA-compliant procedures for data protection and sharing.





  • Manage metadata and experimental data submissions from client systems.





  • Ensure appropriate de-identification and anonymization of human subject data.





  • Facilitate data transfers to public repositories (e.g., ImmPort, NCBI).





  • Assist client investigators with complex data analyses and integration across multiple datasets.





  • Develop and manage software tools and methods for:





  • Data collection, harmonization, tracking, updating, querying, visualization, and analysis.





  • Easy-to-use data submission templates and automated data upload mechanisms.



Data Quality Control



  • Develop and execute comprehensive data quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures.





  • Implement automated validation and error-checking strategies.





  • Perform routine data audits, generate QA/QC reports, and resolve data discrepancies.





  • Maintain version control for documentation, templates, and software systems.



Data Interoperability



  • Implement FAIR data principles to ensure data accessibility, interoperability, and reusability.





  • Collaborate with related NIAID programs to support cross-program data sharing and integration.





  • Participate in the development of data standards with external database and repository teams (e.g., ImmPort, IEDB).



Portal Development and Maintenance



  • Maintain and enhance the client's public and private data portals.





  • Ensure portals support:





  • Secure data browsing and sharing.





  • Visualization of vaccine candidate development status.





  • Public dissemination of client's results, resources, and publications.





  • Develop query capabilities for data tracking and reporting metrics.



Program Coordination, Training, and Communication

* Coordinate client program activities including:



  • Product, sample, and reagent tracking and distribution.





  • Operation of client working groups and subcommittees.





  • Organization of CIVICs annual meetings and workshops.



  • Provide technical training and consultation to CIVICs investigators on DMCC-supported tools and resources.



  • Assist in preparing CIVICs-related scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Health, Biology, or related field. Master's preferred.





  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data management, database development, bioinformatics, or data coordination within a scientific, biomedical, or clinical research environment.





  • Experience supporting NIH-funded or government-sponsored research initiatives a strong plus.





  • Experience with cloud-based data systems and secure data management platforms a plus.





  • Knowledge of vaccine development, immunology, or infectious disease research.





  • Proven experience leading large, multi-site data management projects.





  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, FISMA, Common Rule, and NIH Data Management and Sharing policies.





  • Experience with data standards and interoperability (FAIR principles, metadata standards).





  • Hands-on experience with:





  • Relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)





  • Data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., R, Python, Tableau)





  • Web-based portal systems





  • Familiarity with NIAID-funded resources (ImmPort, IEDB, CEIRR) strongly preferred.





  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and SOP development.





  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks across diverse stakeholders.



Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $139,600 to $181,900 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $160,400. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
