Scope of Position

This position serves as a key component of the administrative operations of the OSU Cancer Program (Comprehensive Cancer Center and The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute). This includes (The James) the third largest cancer hospital in the country which is, 1.1-million-square-foot, 21 levels, and 356+ beds, and the OSUCCC that consists of over 300 faculty members and promotes translational research across all colleges within OSU to which OSUCCC members belong.

Position Summary

The Chief of Staff, Comprehensive Cancer Center and The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James), serves as a principal advisor to the James CEO. This is a highly visible and high-impact position that helps shape the strategic direction of the Cancer Program and is a member of

the OSUCCC-James Executive Team.

The Chief of Staff assists the James CEO in developing and implementing strategies and tactics to ensure effective and efficient business operations and promotes an open environment where all feel like they have a voice with opportunity to thrive. This role executes key strategic priorities and initiatives by exploring, identifying and evaluating comprehensive information and data to provide guidance, advice and assistance on a range of issues, special projects and daily operations focused on advancing the goals of the CEO, oversees and coordinates execution of strategic initiatives; manages a broad range of matters of organizational significance for all operations and activities of the James CEOs office.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience. 8+years of executive level experience required, preferably in a health care environment; exceptional interpersonal and managerial skills required; demonstrated ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization required; ability to work collaboratively and strategically across functions, levels, departments desired; strong written and oral communication skills with proven ability to problem solve and effectively operate in a senior administrative role. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse internal and external constituents.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced degree in business, health care administration, public policy, law or other related field, Substantial prior experience working with or for a senior executive and interacting with senior executives, community leaders, donors, and other similar roles; substantial knowledge and experience in higher education and/or large health systems or other large, complex organizations; significant prior administrative support experience making travel arrangements, purchasing goods and services, and relevant administrative policies and procedures.

On-going: Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, educational, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
