OVERVIEW

ASR Group has ambition to be the most sustainable sugar refining business in the world. Consistent with this mission, the Company has resources that encourage and enable Sustainable Development activities and assurances. This Sustainability Engineer reports directly to the site Facility Manager and has dotted line relationships with the Senior Director of Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Programming (Data and Reporting), VP of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Director Operational Sustainability & Projects, and other departments as needed. The person in this role will be responsible for supporting the site leadership team in finalizing ESG / Sustainability Framework and then executing on it to show progress on sustainability KPIs, ultimately driving toward environmental goals and social responsibilities commitments. The focus will be on instilling a culture of sustainability in the organization in collaboration with and support from muti-disciplinary and department teams including operations, supply chain, human resources & legal. The position will also aid in internal and external communications with stakeholders, while developing and advancing corporate social responsibilities and employees' engagement and awareness programs. The Sustainability Engineer may be called upon to lead interactions and communications with community interest groups, contractors, and consultants, at the direction of the Sustainability / ESG leadership.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Act as a change agent for all Environmental and Social Governance efforts relevant to the site.

* Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of the site's Sustainability / ESG framework, roadmaps and site specific Sustainability Plan.

* Analyse collected data and identifying opportunities for improvements, while ensuring validity of the outcomes and potential communication pathways that may result.

* Development, oversight and implementation of continuous improvement and capital projects that reduce the site's resource demands and minimizes its environmental footprint.

* Rapid delivery of associated improvements that demonstrate urgent progress and results including:

- 5% reduction of CO2 emissions every 2 years (constant production / throughput basis) via short / medium term projects

- Plans in place to meet or exceed Group target of 50% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 (vs 2012 baseline)

- Development of medium and long term technical solutions / options in line with GHG emission neutrality by 2040

- Reductions in potable water usage in line with Group targets.

* Partnership with internal and external subject matter experts for medium / long term complex reductions.

* Engage, submit applications to, and leverage of available "green funding" pathways to mitigated the financial risk associated with sustainable development innovations.

* Facilitate site actions in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) certification (e.g., SMETA, Proterra, & Bonsucro certifications) and 3rd party program validation audits, with corrective action tracking and completion of findings in the activities.

* Develop and implement site specific Voluntary Carbon Market Certification program, with applicable ties to local regulated carbon markets as needed.

* Interact with personnel to ensure related sustainability training and competency requirements are performed and properly recorded.

* Coordinate with site Managers and Corporate resources to develop and maintain appropriate signage.

* Ensure regular tracking, validation, reporting, and recording of all sustainability / ESG data, in accordance with corporate governance expectations (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) and the Company policy on Document Retention.

* Coordinate with sales, marketing, customer service & CSR teams as needed to report work, progress and site-specific sustainability data with customers and consumers when appropriate, in coordination with Corporate ESG leadership.

* Participate in corporate efforts to identify and reduce post-consumer end of life impacts caused by material production and disposal.

* Support Corporate and site level management system reporting within authorized web-based survey system, while ensuring corrective action tracking and rectification of findings.

* Coordinate with site and corporate public relations or international relations departments for tracking community social engagement and local donations.

* Be proactive and committed to continuous improvement efforts, and perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

* BS in Environmental and Social Sustainability (ESS), Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited university is required.

* Advanced Degree is preferred.

ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES

* Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting Sustainable Development efforts, with particular focus on Operational Sustainability or Strategic CSR (preferably in a manufacturing setting).

* Experience with Sustainable Reporting and Metrics calculation to include familiarity with GRI, ISO, pLCA, IPCC, GHG Protocol, etc...

* Experience with third-party validation programming and audits, relative to sustainable development activities.

* Experience with web-based customer-facing survey and reporting platforms, to include CDP, THESIS, ECOVADIS, etc.

* Experience in delivering and/or maintaining Management Systems, with detailed knowledge on risk analysis and target/objective setting.

* Experience in facilitation and completion of innovative projects focused on resources conservation and/ or sustainable development goals.

* Knowledge and understanding of complex steam, power, energy systems and process unit operations, and how these relate to a manufacturing process (preferably in the sugar industry).

* Able to clearly communicate, concisely and effectively at all levels (from Operating through to Executive, internal and external to the business)

TRAVEL

* Up to 10% primarily domestic; travel will be infrequent and based on the needs of the business.

SALARY PAY RANGE: $75,000 - $139,000 plus bonus

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
