The Conflicts Attorney is responsible for identifying and resolving potential legal and business conflicts. This position helps ensure best practices and adherence to firm policies and procedures in client intake, staff and attorney new hires and firm growth opportunities.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of ethical, legal and risk management.
  • Knowledge of law firm conflict clearance and business intake procedures and business organization structures.
  • Provide analysis and critical assessment of due diligence to identify, report and address potential ethical and business conflicts of interest and client worthiness issues related to new firm business, firm growth opportunities and newly hired personnel.
  • Proactively engage in discussions with attorneys, staff and team members to gather information and work to resolve conflicts of interest or other business issues.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing conflict waivers, engagement letters, outside counsel agreements and other documents to ensure compliance with ethical rules and firm policies and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking systems to ensure effective information sharing, proactive follow up and timely documentation of conflict clearance process in firm databases.
  • Collaborate with team members and other personnel to ensure quality due diligence screening is completed in a responsive, client service manner.
  • Assist firm personnel in understanding the firm's conflicts and new business intake policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 4-6 years of legal experience, preferably within a law firm.
  • Must be an active member in good standing in a state bar.
  • Juris Doctor Degree required.
  • Exceptional analytical, decisive and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate concise, timely, accurate and logical conclusions and recommendations based on analyzing data with varied content and format.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and provide a quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in an atmosphere with multiple projects, shifting priorities, and extremely tight deadline pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to converse authoritatively with personnel at all levels.
  • Strong research, computer, and database skills.
  • Proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and interact collegially.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Rochester, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Albany, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Providence, RI: $$107,000 to $158,950
  • Chicago, IL: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Washington, DC: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Boston, MA: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
