Assistant Cook

The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine is searching for reliable, detailed-oriented individuals to join our Dietary Department Team. This position is ideal for retirees/adults who would like to work a limited number of hours as well as for individuals interested in exploring a medical or culinary career.

Dietary Aides

• Full-Time: Days/Evenings Mix (Includes every other weekend)
• Part-Time: Days (Includes every other weekend)
• Part-Time Evenings - Includes Every Other Weekend (4pm-7pm)

Purpose of Position:Responsible for providing superior food service to residents, staff and guests. For applicants desiring additional responsibility and wage, cross-training as a cook can also be considered once comfortable in dietary aide and assistant cook roles.

Fundamental Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation, serving and delivering of food and beverages as directed.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work area.
• Operate dishwasher throughout shift. Wash dishes, pots, pans, coffee urns, glasses and flatware.
• Help ensure all food is labeled, dated and stored properly. Remove outdated food items.
• Help ensure all equipment is turned off. Restock items that were depleted or used during the shift.
• Clean kitchen and equipment.
• Transport food and beverages to neighborhoods and units for meals and when requested.
• Assist cook as requested
• Prepare cold portions of meal - salads, fruit, vegetables, etc.
• Ensure residents are being served according to dietary needs as described on their diet card.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two to four years of high school, basic everyday living skills, the ability to understand and follow directions, and the ability to read, write, add and subtract are required. Must be able to be on feet and active for duration of shift. Must be at least 16years of age.
