The tax department is responsible for managing the world-wide organization's tax responsibilities including planning, compliance and income tax accounting. This role is responsible for overseeing our U.S. GAAP tax accounting and reporting obligations, as well as our U.S. Federal and State tax planning and compliance activities. Reporting directly to the VP Global Tax, engaging and developing tax department employees with an eye towards improving efficiency while maintaining accuracy is an important goal to advance the function. The candidate should be able to maintain a focused leadership presence throughout a dynamic tax environment. This is a hybrid position with the expectation to be onsite at our headquarters at least 8-days a month in Westbrook, ME. What You Will Be Doing:
- You will be the key point of contact, subject matter expert, and advisor for domestic tax law and income tax accounting issues.
- You will monitor and maintain knowledge of tax regulations/laws and compliance developments, analyze and model their impact on the company.
- You will act as a partner for tax issues related to the organization's Veterinary Software & Services business and provide leadership on software tax issues affecting business operations.
- You will provide tax support and research to lines of business, products and functions. Including managing business support for M&A activities.
- You will manage staff, which includes assignment of work, monitoring activities, and evaluation of performance, as well as providing coaching, guidance, and promoting staff development.
- You will support the development of department budget, policies and procedures.
- You will assist, identify, implement new accounting standards that impact income tax accounting and oversee compliance with accounting controls.
- You will coordinate and lead various domestic tax planning initiatives.
- You will review tax calculations, payments, reconciliations related to our domestic tax compliance obligations and manage the department processes necessary for their completion.
- You will review calculations supporting our quarterly and annual income tax provisions, as well as the related disclosures and footnotes.
- You will perform and review income and cash tax forecasting and budgeting.
- You will support federal and state audit activities.
- You will perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need To Succeed:
- Bachelor's degree, along with requisite course work qualifying the individual to sit for state CPA exam, required.
- Master's degree in taxation, J.D. or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- 15+ years of relevant federal, state and tax accounting experience.
- Proven leadership skills and ability with diverse groups of people.
- Strategic thinking and planning ability to develop and execute business strategy.
- In-depth knowledge of tax compliance reporting requirements and standard workpaper practices.
- In-depth knowledge of the principles of accounting for income taxes, as well as SEC and other public reporting obligations.
- Strong organization and project management skills.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner across multiple business units.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities.
- Self-starter.
- Strong computer skills, experience with Excel and other data management programs.
