Description

The Product Engineer will be responsible for engineering, designing, developing, and refining proposed product solutions through the application of engineering principles. This position will be responsible for project management, supplier development/design and driving continuous improvement in process and products.

This full-time position will report to the Director of Engineering at either our Safco Products office location in New Hope, MN or at our Manufacturing Plant located in Milford, IA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate in the product development process.
  • Ensure the feasibility of proposed new product designs, and redesigns of existing products relative to constraints of cost, schedule, function, aesthetics, fit, finish and manufacturing capability.
  • Develop internal engineering proposals recognizing all relevant internal and supplier process limitations, capabilities, and requirements.
  • Analyze supplier-provided engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to the product design.
  • Analyze cost saving opportunities and provide solutions for component, material, and design changes
  • Collaborate in development of requirements-driven specifications for material, secondary processing, fit, finish, and performance of all product components.
  • Utilize 3-D CAD in the development of engineered product solutions and associated production tools from concept through manufacturing release.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and standards for testing, repair and maintenance of all products and packaging.
  • Develop product packaging solutions that recognize the demands and requirements imposed by all forms of shipping employed by Safco, and ensure products arrive to the customer undamaged.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to help troubleshoot product design issues or defects by providing recommendations and alternative approaches to the overall design, engineering, manufacturing, packaging of the product.
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical or manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience
  • 0-3 Years of experience working with engineering design fundamentals, tools, approaches and method for manufacturing products or product components, preferably with prior experience in both sourcing and manufacturing environment.
  • Project management skills

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Solid Works. Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting base salary range for this position is $70,960 - $94,022 per year. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
