HDR is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Chicago, IL. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. While we work in a wide variety of markets this role will be focused on Tech/Media/Telecom, Data Centers, and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure.

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for the growth, operations and technical leadership of the electrical team which encompasses design, staff development and mentoring, workload management, profitability, morale, and quality control. This dynamic individual will be engaged with clients and the engineering community. In this role, you will collaborate with the BES Business Group Manager to build strong external and internal client relationships with other HDR business group leadership. Other responsibilities include participating in marketing and project planning and serving as a representative of HDR to the local industry.

Travel and extended stay at project site locations is required.

In the role of Project Manager Assistant, we'll count on you to:



  • Coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's life cycle (from development and initiation to close-out), while under supervision of a Project Manager
  • Responsible for many aspects of a small project or a single aspect of a larger project
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Per the client contract requirements, APM's will be required to work from the sites at times, applicants shall be willing to travel and spend extended periods on site.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP certification
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management software
  • Experience designing complex and large-scale healthcare, laboratory and or mission critical data centers

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) $97,713.00 - $139,590.00
