What you will do:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Inpatient Oncology is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) prepared at the masters or doctoral level. Our Program Based CNS role requires advanced expertise in oncology and provides real time education and consultation for both standard of care and clinical research, conducts and executes evidence-based practice and ensures clinical practice excellence and competency in all levels of staff who provide direct care 24/7.

The CNS will have clinical oversight of the oncology inpatient sites of care in the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg building:




  • * 98 beds (8 ICU, 90 acute care)
  • * Three oncology units (36, 31, 31 beds)
  • * Solid and hematologic malignancies, solid and liquid tumors, and non-malignant hematology patients
  • * Three nurse managers and three assistant nurse managers per unit
  • * Nursing Practice and Professional Development Specialist (Nurse Educator)



In addition, the inpatient CNS represents oncology nursing in department and hospital committees and special projects. This CNS will be part of a house wide response team that provides oncology consultation, delivers chemotherapy and teaching to JHH inpatients outside of the cancer center. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will advance patient care directly in the role of expert clinical practitioner and indirectly in the roles of educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, collaborator, clinical leader, role model, and patient advocate.

Who should apply:



  • Master's degree in a CNS track from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Maryland. Current designation as an APRN from the Maryland Board of Nursing which includes a certification and a separate CNS License.
  • Five years of full time RN experience in Oncology.
  • BLS CPR certification.


Salary Range: Minimum 56.34/hour - Maximum 87.32/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
