Job Description

The Senior Research Consultant for Genetic Engineering will perform advanced research to improve various production traits in livestock and poultry. This role requires in-depth knowledge of bioinformatics, eQTL, and integration of production phenotypes with genomic data. The consultant will design and develop process pipelines to understand allelic sequence space for genome editing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform research within the field of "-omics" to improve various production traits.
  • Design and develop experiments, analyze and interpret the results, and assess the intellectual property and publication potential. Work independently while also interacting and collaborating with faculty.
  • Manage multiple projects related to genetic engineering in poultry and livestock with different timetables and outcomes. Possess knowledge of best practices and concepts to integrate genetic variation with multiple phenotypes.
  • Solve complex problems and analyses, taking a new perspective on existing solutions by exercising judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information, determining gaps, and providing recommendations.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Be recognized as an expert in genomics and gene structure. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree preferred in related field
  • Data Analysis and Bioinformatics: Experienced in analyzing and processing bulk and single-cell transcriptomic datasets on a HPC system.
  • Programming: Proficiency in various programming languages (Perl, R, Bash, Python, and Nextflow), resulting in high-level data analysis, visualization, and pipeline generation.
  • Computational Tools: Familiarity with exploring and applying bioinformatic tools such as PLINK, GCTA, BCFtools, SAMtools, DESeq2, GATK, and Seurat.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $69,097.60 - $115,000.00 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
