Job Summary The Senior Manager of Accounting is responsible for having strong technical accounting skills, managing the Company's general accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and tax functions, including ensuring the Company adheres to US GAAP and local country GAAP and Company policy and procedures. Additionally, this position would be expected to utilize their accounting expertise to support potential mergers and acquisitions. The position is accountable for the development and coaching of staff. The ideal candidate will have a record of improving, automating, and streamlining procedures while consistently achieving corporate financial goals. #LI-PN1
Responsibilities
Manage the preparation and distribution of internal and external financial statements, footnotes, and reports to Benjamin Moore and Berkshire Hathaway executive management.

Lead the planning and execution of the month-end consolidation process. Ensure all elimination entries are properly processed. Ensure foreign currency translations are properly recorded. Prepare/review consolidated financial statements, including the consolidated balance sheet, income statement, statement of shareholders' equity, and cash flows. Prepare/review footnote disclosures and supplemental schedules/analyses required by Berkshire Hathaway. -
Develop and maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process and financial controls. Coordinate, develop, and update written policies and procedures for the financial reporting process. -
Conducted technical research and resolved accounting issues, including evaluating and implementing new accounting pronouncements, to ensure US GAAP compliance. Specifically, review revenue recognition policies and conduct periodic impairment tests of intangible balances. Monitor pending guidance and its potential impact on the company. - Manage technical accounting with respect to local financial GAAP for Statutory reporting.

Oversee the accounting for all pension and post-retirement benefit accounts. Prepare annual pension and 401(k) financial statements and oversee external audits and regulatory filings. Record, analyze, and reconcile financial accounts related to retirement pension plans and post-retirement benefit programs in the US and Canada, and elsewhere. - Oversee the accounting for liability, intercompany, cash, and clearing accounts, ensuring accounts are properly stated, analyzed, and reconciled monthly
- Lead a staff of 3-5 employees
- Assist in the preparation of accounting policies
- Calculate monthly financial metrics and quarterly peer analyses
- Review required census data requests
- Review and aggregate support for income tax requests
- Participate in special projects and prepare ad hoc analyses, as requested
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 7-10 years' accounting experience. Big 4 plus public company financial reporting experience preferred.
- CPA required
- Strong technical US GAAP accounting knowledge and knowledge of local statutory reporting.
- Knowledge of best practices in internal controls and financial reporting
- Knowledge of mergers & acquisitions, as well as due diligence practices.
- Must be highly analytical and inquisitive with strong organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and the ability to meet monthly deadlines and goals
- Strong working knowledge Microsoft Office; proficient in Excel, Access, and Word
- Knowledge of SAP BPC and Business Objects is a plus
- Excellent organizational, managerial, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills, ability to work in a team-based, continuous improvement environment
- Strong Business Acumen and ability to interpret and explain financial results and trends
- Expected travel up to 5% in the US and Canada, no extended projects. Weekend work as needed
- Knowledge of manufacturing accounting and variance analysis.
