Formulations Lead Scientist

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Provide strategic oversight in developing formulation science to advance innovation and align with IFF's objectives, including leading key projects and initiatives.
• Serve as the subject-matter expert in formulation technologies to influence decisions, particularly as they relate to Health and Biosciences applications.
• Monitor current industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Guide the development of next-generation formulation strategies to address market needs and emerging trends.

Team Management

• Take responsibility for the group's organizational development, training, goal setting, performance review, coaching, and counseling to ensure a high-performing technical organization.
• Evaluate and develop the succession plan and alignment of resources to support the needs of the Health and Biosciences business.
• Promote a team culture that is collaborative, diverse and inclusive, fostering innovation and knowledge-sharing to inspire excellence and achieve outstanding results.
• Champion best practices in process safety across formulation labs. Manage the labs and lab budget.

Project Oversight

• Drive the execution of formulation projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and regulatory affairs, to deliver comprehensive differentiated formulation solutions.
• Manage project portfolios, prioritizing initiatives based on business impact and strategic alignment.

Innovation and Strategy

• Identify and integrate new technologies to maintain a competitive edge in the field, with involvement in intellectual property strategy.
• Develop and implement long-term strategies for formulation innovation in Health and Biosciences to create business value.
• Represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and partnerships to enhance its reputation as a leader in formulation science.

Job Requirements:

• A Ph.D. or master's degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in formulation science, with a proven track record in commercializing products with a focus on enzymes, microbial or bioactive delivery
• Strong leadership, team, and project management skills, with experience overseeing multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Deep technical expertise in formulation process technologies such as liquid formulation, freeze-drying, spray drying, fluid bed granulation, cryopreservation and microencapsulation, with specific focus on stabilizing enzymes and live microbes.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
• Proficiency in people and project management and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Technical knowledge and/or experience with separation technologies such as filtration, centrifugation, and crystallization.
• Experience designing and implementing high-throughput screening methods.
