The IT Systems Specialist III - Storage Engineer ensures the stability, scalability, and security of enterprise storage infrastructure while supporting data retention, backups, monitoring, and recovery strategies to safeguard organizational data. The IT Storage Engineer focuses on storage architecture, administration, and innovative solutions to enhance technological capabilities. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced enterprise storage solutions to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. Responsibilities include configuring and managing storage systems, troubleshooting performance issues, capacity planning, lifecycle maintenance, and implementing automation solutions. Expertise in modern storage technologies such as SAN (Storage Area Networks), NAS (Network Attached Storage), SDS (Software-Defined Storage), cloud storage platforms (e.g., AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage), and virtualization storage solutions (e.g., VMware vSAN) is essential. A thorough understanding of storage protocols, such as SMB (Server Message Block), NFS (Network File System), and iSCSI, is required. Familiarity with storage networks and Fibre Channel technologies is also required. Additionally, this role encompasses developing and managing data retention policies, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements, overseeing backup and disaster recovery solutions, and monitoring storage systems to maintain performance and identify potential issues proactively.
Responsibilities
Enhancing Storage Infrastructure: Improve system stability and performance by managing enterprise storage systems, like Dell EMC Isilon and Pure Storage, and integrating advanced storage technologies.
- Optimizing Storage Workflows: Redesign workflows to maximize data access, minimize latency, and ensure consistent storage availability across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

- Monitoring Storage Systems: Implement and manage monitoring tools such as Dynatrace or vendor-specific solutions to ensure continuous oversight of storage performance, capacity, and health. Proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they impact business operations.
- Leveraging Cloud Technologies: Integrate and manage cloud storage solutions, like AWS S3 and Azure Blob Storage, to enable scalability and support enterprise data strategies.
- Promoting Collaboration: Foster a culture of teamwork among IT teams by facilitating knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving related to storage and data management technologies.
- Embracing Automation and Configuration Management: Utilize tools like Ansible, Terraform, scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python), or vendor specific tools as appropriate to automate storage operations, backups, and retention processes to improve efficiency. Use configuration management to ensure assets remain in their desired state.
- Prioritizing Security and Compliance: Implement robust security protocols, including data encryption, access controls, and adherence to standards like HIPAA, to protect enterprise data and storage systems.
