Role Summary

Engineer responsible to support all ESS Integration engineering activities, including ESS Dimensional Engineering, ESS Fastening Engineering and ESS Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, technical development of the battery system.


Responsibilities

  • Support ESS Integration and Design Engineering Team for all Rivian vehicle programs
    • Hands-on support for build & test activities to ensure design & integration deliverables are met
  • Support ESS technical team to ensure the timely delivery of Battery system to support vehicle program timing, test and validation.
  • Battery system architecture development for next generation system including supporting:
    • Battery System Integration efforts in packaging Battery system in vehicle
    • Weekly Battery System Product Development Team meetings
    • Cross Functional teams in integration of Battery System in vehicles.
    • Battery System product development team in development of vehicle specific architecture
    • Overall Battery System layout and requirements development for Battery System
    • Development of analysis requirements for Battery system
    • System controls and safety architecture development
    • Lead Dimensional Engineering team in developing dimensional requirements for Battery System
  • Develop timing and delivery plans Battery System.
  • Management of part maturities meeting development requirements.
  • Support development and management Battery System and component functional requirements.
  • PLM Battery System management and component attribute data in Enovia, including meeting cost & mass targets.
  • Support CAD design reviews as necessary for Battery system targets.
  • Ensure drafting, tolerance stack analysis, and GD&T are completed for Battery system and components.
  • Work with ESS CAE team to define and submit simulation requests as needed for design validation and correlation with test.
  • Participate and be responsible for battery component and system DFMEAs
  • Work with Rivian Validation team to develop DVP from component requirements and DFMEA.
  • Support prototype builds to execute development testing and support development vehicle program.
  • Work with Rivian Supply Chain to quote and source production suppliers.
  • Work with suppliers on component DFM to reduce cost and improve quality and reliability.
  • Work with Rivian manufacturing team on ESS system and component DFA to improve manufacturability.
  • Work with Rivian Validation Team and design & release engineering to support pre and post-test analyses
  • Support component interface analysis and testing
  • Support ongoing product development efforts for cost reduction, design improvements, failure root cause analyses, warranty claim analyses

Qualifications

  • 1+ years industry experience or Master's degree.
  • Experience work with vehicles (FSAE)
  • Familiarity with lithium ion cell chemistries and form factors.
  • Design experience for injection molding, forming/stamping, casting, extrusion, and composite layup.
  • Understanding of battery system architectures, system controls, and circuit analysis.
  • Strong fluids and thermodynamics background with working knowledge of energy conversion and heat transfer.
  • Experience with automotive powertrain requirements, load cases, and standards.
  • Experience with release engineering including CAD design, GD&T, and PLM interface.
  • Strong oral and written communication for supplier engagement, program timing, and project management. Experience with automotive DVP&R cycle, requirements management, and issue tracking - JIRA, JAMA, IQ-RM
  • CATIA V6 (3Dx) and Enovia proficiency
  • MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project) proficiency

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Candidates: $85,600.00 - $107,000.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment.
