Job Description

MANUFACTURING LEAD

POSITION SUMMARY:

As the most senior skilled production staff member in the department, is responsible for the work operation of employees within the department or unit. He has significant experience in all production functions, including machine setup, process planning, layouts, machining, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.

Able to perform a combination of activities related to function or operation of numerically controlled (NC) or computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Performs developmental or precision machine work, troubleshoot and resolve technical machine operation and production problems, or train others in skills needed for machine fabrication. Coordinate activities of workers engaged in one or more occupations, give instruction and direction to assigned group, motivate workers to meet production standards, perform the same duties as workers, check worker operations, or coordinate resolutions of worker problems. This position is identified based upon the highest level of work performed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Receives and transmits instructions and work specifications to workers. Teach subject matter to employees or train workers through explanation, demonstration, and directed on-the-job practice. Instructors assigned workers on any work or machine operation performed by group, and gave directions, instruction or information to assigned group including most effective utilization of available time, skills, tooling and equipment.

Performs all tasks of workers in-group. Make complete setting up of any machine, equipment or tooling, which will be used or operated by members of the assigned group. Make trial runs on, operate or use machines, equipment and tooling after setup has been made.

Understands machine programming and computer aided machining. Requires utilizing machine shop theory and practice as related to construction and operational characteristics of NC/CNC machines including methods for precision machining and equipment and tool usage, major equipment rebuilding and repair and have ability to train employees in these concepts and manual skills. Additionally, utilizes a complete knowledge of safety practices, conduct, cleanliness, good housekeeping and equipment care:

Plans type and sequence of machining operations necessary to complete assignment with minimum
machining where planning information is not provided. Sets up machines where it is necessary to improvise and adapt tooling.

Makes complete program changes including rewrite of operations, sequences or cycles for optimum machining conditions. Perform developmental machining work where on-going analysis and evaluation is necessary, and where extra careful attention and application of machine shop theory is required to hold machining requirements consistently with good output. Be responsible for performing precision machining work on expensive products or on materials where formal inspection may not be required.

Troubleshoots plans, layout, setup, machining operations, equipment function, and materials and
tools usage to diagnose causes of machining defects, equipment malfunction or other trouble associated with recurring complex or interrelated machine shop job problems. Recommend and/or perform corrective measures including complete teardown of setup or machine, machinery repair or rebuild, including changing and adjusting bearings, materials or tools substitutions, completely new setup and functional machine check to prove out correct machine and machining operations.

Conducts courses or perform on-the-job training to plan and layout machining job and to set up and operate various machines within their full capacity and to train in developmental and precision machine work and troubleshooting defined above.

Setups and operates a variety of precision measuring instruments to inspect and approve work on all significant machine tools within a cell group. Use Statistical Process Control (SPC) for machining results, problem solving, team leading and leadership development.

Select the most suitable tools and equipment or machine attachments or improvise or adapt standard tooling to hold nonstandard designed parts or parts requiring multiple setups, or where setup has been outlined by others. Able to set up all equipment in the designed area.

Take corrective action to solve problems associated with all machine tools within a cell group including complex or interrelated machine shop job problems. Works with design engineer to clarify production or developmental machine work.

Functions as a team leader to direct planning meetings, to solve machine production problems, or to improve group operations. Coordinate overall scheduling of workflow and quality control of cell group, and conduct courses or perform on-the job training on all phases of machine cell group operations.

Explain company policies and safety regulations to employees and work with company management to ensure compliance. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules using knowledge of capacities for machinery and equipment. Interpret specifications, blueprints and job orders for worker job duty assignment. Where more than one occupation is required, an employee must possess a general knowledge of activities involved. Determine the sequence of operations when necessary and when this information is not furnished.

Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve goals. Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product, and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew. As requested, recommend personnel actions to management such as promotions, transfers, discharge or disciplinary measures, but they are not responsible for final decisions.

Analyze and coordinate resolutions of technical problems or assist when solving problems including contacts outside own department as required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

All job levels require annual certification in safe practices for appropriate machine operation, handling of hazardous materials, quality assurance requirements, and basic Statistical Process Control (SPC). To maintain this level, an employee must have completed advanced Statistical Process Control (SPC) training, problem solving and team leader training together with basic leadership development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

One year certificate from college or technical school plus ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATH ABILITY:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $25.50 to $31.53 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 96 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
