About the role

As a Maintenance Mechanic & Welder, you will be responsible for performing various mechanical, maintenance, and repair work, including the inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment. The mechanic may inspect and adjust the mechanical alignment of pumps, replace or rebuild pumps, replace fan bearings, replace motors, repair screw conveyors, rebuild or change gearboxes, install and modify pipelines, and assist in the modification and addition of plant projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and weld to standard platforms, chutes, and other non-pressure vessel code welding procedures.
  • Pressure part welding of carbon steel and stainless steel with previous qualification in all positions to NBIC code specs.
  • Interpret and use blueprints, construction drawings, and AWS welding symbols.
  • General rigging practices, specifically in boiler element rigging.
  • Actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment.
  • Read and interpret measuring tools, graphs, and technical manuals.
  • Follow all health and safety rules and regulations mandated by law and per the policies and procedures. Keep work area clean, safe, and orderly.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must have at least five years' experience in all phases of the Millwright and Boilermaker phase.
  • High School Diploma/GED. Formal technical or apprenticeship training is desired.
  • Must understand blueprints and be capable of performing all welding scopes to include stick, Tig and Mig welding, welding of steel and stainless steel, and be able to become code qualified for boiler repairs.
  • Must be capable of performing welding in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW as well as all portable cutting technologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of loads and hoisting equipment is necessary.
  • The ability to read, understand, and apply information such as OSHA lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, and procedure manuals.
  • Training and skills in metal working tools and metal working shop equipment in the performance of his/her assigned tasks.
  • Candidate must have excellent manual dexterity, allowing for the repair of precision equipment, safely and effectively, while working in awkward locations/positions.
  • Oral and written communication skills, along with problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Fundamental computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and standard operating & safety procedures.
  • Must be able to work overtime on a rotating on-call schedule to support plant operations as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and unplanned maintenance.

    • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
    • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
    • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
    • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
    • Consistently work in various weather conditions
