Staff Skills for Success; Leadership Skills for Success Department Background The Department of Animal Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs on the biology and management of food, laboratoryand companion animal species. Our research programs advance our understanding of animal biology and address local and global issues facing animal industries today. Our goals are to discover and develop new techniques and information to benefit animals, agricultureand human health. Ourinternationally recognized faculty have diverse interests in animal management, breeding, genetics, physiology, nutrition, growth biology and microbiology. Supervise the operation of the teaching lab facility. Develop new labs and revise old labs to support four major Animal Nutrition and Physiology undergraduate courses in the Fall and Spring involving approximately 200-300 students. Teach and supervise students in one or more sections for each course. Assist faculty in planning and teaching as well as the preparation of lab material and equipment. Supervise graduate student Teaching Assistants assigned to large, introductory laboratory courses in the Animal Science curriculum. Demonstrate the ability to express thoughts clearly to develop educational activities. Evaluate student lab reports and exams; assist with grading and evaluating oral reports. Organize and prepare laboratories. Ensure department compliance with regulations on storage, labeling, handling, and proper waste management. Obtain and properly dispose of animal organs and tissues and care for laboratory animals. Assist with teaching techniques to students, assisting students with data summary and analysis. Develop and conduct outreach programs for area high school biology teachers and students. Promote cooperation and a welcoming environment for all students.
