OverviewThe Microsoft Applied Sciences Group (ASG) incubates disruptive technologies for Microsoft's next-gen Windows and Device products and is working on several exciting projects that will shape how computers and other devices perceive the user and the user's environment. Operating as a startup within the company, this team works closely with several research and product teams to bring compelling new experiences to the market. A lot of these experiences will be powered by signal processing and computer vision - and as part of this team, you will have the unique opportunity to work on almost every aspect of a shipping vision system: screen rendering, camera optics, sensors, data pipeline and of course, developing and implementing the algorithms that make magic happen! We are looking for a Senior Researcher in the field of computer vision with proficiency in deep learning techniques to help our devices compute better understanding of the user and the environment. You will be working with a growing team of talented researchers already dedicated to this mission and using data and hardware only available to a select few. ResponsibilitiesGain expertise in a broad area of research (e.g., Machine Learning [ML] and Computer Vision [CV]) and develop mastery in one or more subareas (e.g., low level vison) while leveraging corresponding literature, applicable research techniques, and academic context.Identify and articulate problems in an area of research that are academically novel and may directly or indirectly impact business opportunities, especially on edge-based machine learning.Research and develop an understanding of the state-of-the-art insights, tools, technologies, or methods being used in the research community.Apply deep subject-matter expertise around several specialized tools/methods to support planning for research projects, and evaluate insights based on their impact and value.Advance a research agenda through one or more research projects, yielding new algorithms, prototypes, theories, tools, methods, analyses, insights, or collections of data in one or more subareas or a broad area of research. Contribute to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and/or data/information collection by providing updates and suggestions around internal best practices. Develop and deploy computing technologies that uphold trustworthiness, robustness, privacy, values, and ethical considerations. Expands collaborative relationships with relevant product and business groups inside or outside of Microsoft as a world expert and provides expertise or technology to them. Take initiative and participates in activities such as technology transfers attempts, standards organizations, filing patents, authoring white papers, developing or maintaining tools/services for internal Microsoft use, or consulting for product or business groups.Collaborate with other relevant researchers or research groups to contribute to or advance a research agenda. Reviews papers and organizes workshops or conference sessions. Publish papers as lead author for high-quality conferences and journals, with an impact similar to that of a (United States) assistant professor. Embody our Culture and Values
