Position description

A postdoctoral position is available in the relational cognition lab, lead by Dr Anna Leshinskaya in the Cognitive Sciences Department at UC Irvine. The position, funded by the Schmidt Sciences AI Safety Science Program, is towards research projects at the intersection of moral & conceptual cognition and AI interpretability, together with collaborators Seth Lazar and Alice Oh. We are seeking a talented researcher with a background in computational cognitive science and large language model interpretability, with familiarity in conceptual/relational reasoning, moral reasoning, and/or decision making. The candidate will work collaboratively with a passionate and growing team of PhD students, a full-time lab technician, and talented undergraduate research assistants. The position is either fully onsite or hybrid (remote/on-site) based in Irvine, CA and is expected to be for a minimum of 2 years, with the possibility of renewal.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):



  • PhD in Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence, Psychology, or Neuroscience (or related field)
  • Background in computational modeling or machine learning or related technical skill


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior work in moral cognition, decision making, relational reasoning, or large language model interpretability with respect to cognitive processes
