The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

The Biomedical Functional Imaging and Neuroengineering Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the Lab Technician position, available from August 2025. You will join an interdisciplinary research lab working with postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, conducting cutting edge brain - computer interface (BCI) research. The lab has made important contributions to noninvasive brain-computer interfaces using electroencephalography (EEG) where human subjects are using their "thoughts" to control a virtual or robotic device.

Responsibilities:

  • You will have opportunities to work with a highly collaborative team and have responsibility of carrying our EEG data collection for cutting-edge BCI research and other responsibilities assigned.
  • You will be responsible for human subject recruiting and communications with subjects or potential subjects, managing the experimental schedules, coordinating with other researchers and supporting cutting-edge neuroengineering/neuroscience research in human subjects
  • You will have opportunities to learn research skills to run experimental protocols, in addition to EEG capping and data collection. You will also have opportunities, in minor effort, to help manage lab facilities.

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA degree in psychology, neuroscience, physiology, biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Past experience in EEG data collection in human subjects desirable.
  • Skillful in operating computers and software including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also adaptable to supervision.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
