Job Overview

Responsible for the design and construction management of small university projects. Overseeing projects from inception to completion, including meeting with stakeholders to understand their needs, developing initial design plans, managing project budgets, coordinating with contractors and engineers, and ensuring the project adheres to building codes and other regulations while staying on schedule and within budget throughout the construction process.

Essential Functions

  • Meet with stakeholders to discuss project requirements, present design concepts, and manage expectations throughout the project.
  • Create initial design plans, including sketches and drawings, based on the stakeholder's needs and project requirements.
  • Complete project design through Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents.
  • Prepare and issue signed Permitting and Bidding Documents.
  • In collaboration with UC's procurement office, complete bidding and contractor selection.
  • Oversee the project budget, timeline, and quality control measures to ensure project completion within parameters.
  • Work with engineers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to coordinate design elements and resolve issues during construction.
  • Oversee construction and perform typical construction administration duties typically performed by Project Architect, including review of contractor submittals and shop drawings, responses to Requests for Information, review of Change Order requests, and regular construction site visits to monitor progress, identify problems, and ensure compliance with design.
  • Ensure the project design meets all applicable building codes and regulations and industry standards.
  • Help capital project planners and managers regarding project scope development.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of internal procedures.
  • Work under general supervision, performing other assignments as directed.
  • Interpret and communicate information clearly and accurately. Communicate internally within P + D + C and/or the university. Communicate with external audiences if required.
  • Interpret and communicate information, ideas and instructions clearly and accurately, both verbally and in written materials intended for distribution

Required Education

Bachelor's degree required

Required Experience

(5) Five years of experience in architectural design and project management

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Proficiency in applicable BIM and CAD software(s).
  • Strong architectural design skills and knowledge of building codes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients and team members
  • Project management skills to manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in drawings and specifications
  • Understanding of construction methods and materials
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with sustainable design practices
  • Strong understanding of building codes and regulations
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
