Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

UNC-Chapel Hill's Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services ( VPAS) is seeking a dynamic, creative, self-driven professional to serve as a Prevention Programs Specialist. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive outreach, prevention education, training, and programs across the University. The focus includes addressing interpersonal and targeted violence, including sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, stalking, sexual and gender-based harassment, and hazing.

The Prevention Programs Specialist leads initiatives to engage UNC-Chapel Hill students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), employees, post-doctoral scholars, and community members. Primary responsibilities include overseeing VPAS's student team (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), designing and facilitating prevention programs and trainings, coordinating national awareness month initiatives, and developing educational resources and materials to support social norms and marketing campaigns. Topics of focus include awareness, knowledge, and skill-building related to identifying and recognizing concerning behaviors and bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent, supporting others, harm reduction, and fostering a safer campus community.

The Prevention Programs Specialist plays a key role in developing and executing a comprehensive and cohesive violence prevention strategy for both the department and University. This strategy is informed by research, evidence-based practices, and environmental factors while aligning with federal mandates and compliance, including Section 304 of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, the Jeanne Clery Act, and the Stop Campus Hazing Act. This position supports evaluation and assessment initiatives and addresses key issues identified through ongoing needs assessments, emerging trends, established best practices, and compliance with federal, state, and campus regulations and policies.

This position serves as a liaison between VPAS and other campus and community partners seeking to collaborate on violence prevention initiatives. It requires a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary-focused professional dedicated to developing and fostering relationships and actively engaging with stakeholders to advance prevention initiatives across the University. This includes collaborating and working closely with a wide range of groups, such as the Equal Opportunity and Compliance, law enforcement, campus safety, Student Affairs, schools and departments, student organizations, faculty, and community resources.

The Prevention Programs Specialist reports to the Director of Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services.
