JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The College of Engineering is seeking applicants for part-time job of Technician A - Manufacturing Systems Lab.

Job duties to include:

  • Provide support for laboratory classes and research projects. Work closely with small groups to enhance their learning experience and ensure safe effective use of laboratory resources.
  • Assist with safety training and safety monitoring within Labs.
  • Assist with equipment training for faculty, students, and staff within Labs.
  • Perform machinist duties: maintenance, set up, and operation of equipment such as milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and saws.
  • Execute foundry work: operation of green sand system, mold making, and induction furnaces.
  • Perform welders duties: maintenance, set up, and operation of various types of welding procedures.
  • Perform various types of destructive and non-destructive material testing.

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

  • Program and operate various computer-controlled equipment, including robots, lathes, milling machines, and coordinate measuring instruments.
  • Machining, welding, foundry experience.
  • Proficiency in advanced shop mathematics, including the interpretation of complex drawings, specifications, charts, and tables.
  • Expertise with a wide range of adjustable measuring instruments and technical procedures.
  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship or equivalent education (high school diploma plus a two-year technical college degree).
  • Three to four years of relevant industry experience.

Compensation:

The starting rate for this job is $21 per hour.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
