Job Summary:

The Associate Director (AD) of Latinx/a/o Student Engagement (LSE) at the Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs (APCDIA) reports to the Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs Director. The AD of LSE at APCDIA will support the Director in fostering campus-wide awareness, knowledge, and skills around inclusion and equity, as well as creating a diverse student body's supportive and inclusive campus environment. The AD of LSE at APCDIA will also work with the Director in achieving the APCDIA's mission to engage multiple identities of all students, support leaders to be change agents for social justice, build alliances with students, create a community that honors and values diversity, and raise awareness on socially and culturally diverse student backgrounds.

The AD of LSE is primarily responsible for managing, developing, and assessing programs and activities related to Latinx/a/o student engagement and success. Additionally, the Associate Director will collaborate on the intercultural and intersectional programming and initiatives offered by APCDIA staff and campus partners.

The AD of LSE will collaborate on programs and services with other APCDIA staff to support and advocate for students' multiple identities. The AD of LSE also collaborates with other university units to provide student-centered services requiring flexible scheduling, including occasional weekend and evening hours.

Job Description:

  • Assist in developing and delivering culturally relevant programs that support student engagement, retention, and graduation of Latinx/a/o students.

  • Serve as educator, advocate, and thought leader on the unique needs, experiences, and challenges Latinx/a/o students face.

  • Collaborate with campus programs/departments aimed at increasing recruitment, retention, persistence, and completion of Latinx/a/o students, such as, but not limited to, University-wide and Division-wide committees, Student Success and Retention, Proyecto Pa'lante, and El Centro.

  • Provide consultation and support to Latinx/a/o students in need and make referrals to the appropriate resources on and off campus.

  • Collaborate with the peer APCDIA staff in recruiting, training, and developing APCDIA student staff.

  • Stay informed through higher education literature and research regarding retention and institutional policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with campus entities on events that promote multicultural understanding, academic success, alliance, and civic engagement.

  • Serve as an active member of the Council on the Status of Latinx/a/o.

  • Assist with division-wide retention initiatives in support of student success.

  • Collaborate with, evaluate, and help guide student workers and/or work study students.

  • Assist the Director of APCDIA with the presentation of program reports, annual reports, publications, and other information required from the APCDIA.

  • Assist the Director of APCDIA with developing and coordinating the strategic plan/initiatives for the Center.

  • Share leadership responsibilities in the absence of the APCDIA Director upon their request.

  • Create safe spaces for students to seek assistance and develop appropriate rapport with students. Coordinate referrals and interventions for tutoring, success coaching, and other support services; monitor follow-up and follow through with referrals and interventions.

  • Foster coordination among student organizations supporting and celebrating Blackness on campus (e.g., fraternities/sororities, Latin American Student Organization, LASO, etc.).

  • May be asked to supervise an undergraduate/graduate student aide.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director of the APCDIA.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years full-time experience in an urban, commuter college or university in student affairs or a related field.

  • Experience advising Latinx/a/o students, individually and as members of student organizations, emphasizing identity development and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with various constituencies (academic and student affairs) to promote diversity initiatives and a deep understanding of issues related to cultural capital, race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, and religious and spiritual backgrounds as well as their intersectionality.

  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, managing, supervising, and evaluating student staff.

  • Experience in an urban commuter college or university is preferred.

  • Track record of upholding a vision promoting cross-identities collaboration, preferably at metropolitan, ethnically diverse, Hispanic Serving, Minority-Serving institutions, Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

  • Experience with various phases of program planning and assessment. Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in DEI, social justice education, training, and program assessment and evaluation.

  • Advanced training and instruction experience using multiple modalities and delivery methods are preferred.

Salary Range

55,000-65,000
