This internship provides an excellent opportunity for an emerging professional to work in a professionally oriented and innovative University with supportive and collaborative colleagues, motivated student leaders, and a diverse student population. Jefferson East Falls Campus (Thomas Jefferson University) commits an extensive amount of time and resources to provide a sound foundation for success for each new student through their First Year Experience (FYE) Program which includes New Student Orientation. The Associate for New Student Orientation will be an integral member of the New Student Orientation Team. New first year students are required to attend First Year Summer Orientation, which includes six one-day programs.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Serve as a member of the New Student Orientation Team responsible for the coordination of the New Student Orientation Program at Jefferson East Falls Campus
  • Assist in the design, coordination, facilitation, and assessment of Orientation Leader training with the Co-Associate and Office of Student Engagement staff
  • Supervise undergraduate Orientation Leaders
  • Lead facilitation for both the Student Track and the Guest/Supporter Track during First Year Summer Orientation sessions
  • Implement ongoing staff development activities and coordinate the end-of-summer recognition event for the New Student Orientation Team
  • Assess and evaluate all elements of New Student Orientation
  • Assist with the planning of Weeks of Welcome programming occurring throughout the first six weeks of the Fall semester
  • Opportunity to engage with other offices at the Jefferson East Falls Campus

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Experience working in orientation, transition and/or retention programs
  • Ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with university staff, faculty, and students
  • Effective customer relations and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time and multi-task appropriately
  • Strong skill set with organization
