What you'll be doing:

As part of the Cyber Architecture Services - Adaptive Defense Engineering team, you will collaborate with our Cyber Defense Red Team, PenTest Team and Insider Threat organizations. You will leverage frameworks such as MITRE CAPEC and STRIDE to build threat models that not only accelerate Cyber Defense testing efforts but also serve as a foundation for identifying and mitigating risk. At the same time, you will analyze Cyber Defense findings to architect targeted solutions that address vulnerabilities and close security gaps, ensuring a continuous feedback loop that strengthens Verizon's overall cybersecurity posture.

Responsibilities:

As part of the Adaptive Defense Engineering team, you will be responsible for performing and maintaining enterprise-scale threat models for devices, networks, applications, and systems. You will collaborate with stakeholders to solve, harden and close security gaps as a result of findings. The ideal candidate is recognized as a senior most cybersecurity professional and has experience working in both offensive and defensive environments and has developed solutions in either or both areas.

  • Create and maintain detailed threat models using established frameworks (e.g., MITRE CAPEC, STRIDE, PASTA, Attack trees) to guide security testing and risk mitigation.

  • Translate findings from penetration tests, red team exercises, and insider threat assessments into actionable architectural improvements.

  • Design and implement security solutions that proactively address identified vulnerabilities and emerging threats.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and hardening with security architecture solutions.

  • Document and communicate security strategies, threat models, and remediation plans to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Utilize benchmarks to create and enhance security baselines.

  • Developing and maintaining high-quality documentation of infrastructure, processes, and procedures.

  • Managing tasks using Jira and other collaboration tools.

  • Stay current with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies, integrating best practices into our threat modeling processes.

What we're looking for: You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Recognized cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP or CISM.

  • Solid experience in cybersecurity architecture with a strong focus on threat modeling.

  • Proficiency in using threat modeling frameworks such as MITRE CAPEC, STRIDE, PASTA, Attack-Trees

  • Identifying vulnerabilities using CWE or OWASP.

  • Ability to design and implement effective security solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity defense operations, including penetration testing and red teaming.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.

  • Experience with common information technology topics including IP networking, Operating Systems, Authentication, Encryption, APIs, Virtualization/Containers.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical conditions in large, enterprise environments.

  • A track record of leading cross-functional security initiatives.

  • Work experience using Jira, AYS, or similar task management tools.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Offsec Certified Professional (OSCP) and/or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Certification

  • Experience with insider threat programs.

  • Knowledge of security automation, orchestration, or threat intelligence tools.

  • Deep insight into emerging threats and modern security technologies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annually salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $137,000.00 - $263,000.00.
