Job Description:

Ryan Companies is looking for an organized, detail-oriented, innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking individual who aims for the highest standards of excellence. The ideal candidate will be able to problem solve, executing direction and managing the sustainability process for the Ryan A+E team. Candidates with at least 5 years of experience in sustainable design or related building industry fields are most likely to be successful, however those with unique career experience or who display clear potential for the role will be considered.

Ryan Companies uses a unique integrated delivery process that involves architecture, engineering, construction, development, real estate management and capital markets. Ryan's integrated process requires an individual to be able to work in a proactive and positive manner in tandem with local teams and cross regionally within a national design practice.

Some things you can expect to do

  • Works in tandem with Client, Design Team, Development, Construction, Consultant and Director of Sustainability to support ideation and implementation of sustainability, resiliency, and high-performance design strategies.
  • Develop and refine of internal sustainable standards and resources that reflect strong knowledge of codes, building science, materials and industry trends.
  • Supports Director of Sustainability on RFPs, proposals, and client interviews to provide sustainability expertise and tailor in-depth responses to clients' goals.
  • Implementation and execution of Ryan A+E Sustainability Goals which align with Ryan Values, R30 Goals, and Ryan A+E Strategic Plan across all regions & sectors.Corporate Sustainability responsibility: perform the following responsibilities in partnership with Director of Sustainability and Chief Sustainability Officer:
  • Supports Director of Sustainability's efforts for overall Ryan Companies Thriving Sustainability program by providing constructive input and trainings for A+E team members on new initiatives.
  • Lead the roll-out of tools/processes during pursuit and design phases on A+E projects.
  • Department responsibility: performs the following responsibilities in partnership with Director of Sustainability, Ryan A+E Leadership, Sector Leaders, Regional Leaders and Department Leaders:
  • Assist Director with strategic planning and business development efforts to grow sustainability team.
  • Active participation in A+E sustainability vision team.
  • Coordinate with additional committee efforts within A+E to ensure seamless integration of sustainability tools and strategies (Innovation, Design Council, Stewardship, Marketing, etc.).
  • Promotes professional accreditations (such as LEED AP, WELL AP, etc.) within A+E and develop guidance on initial examination, recertification, and continuing education resources.
  • Support and lead sustainability training opportunities for A+E team in collaboration with Director of Sustainability.
  • Support the development and tracking of sustainable performance goals and metrics for internal benchmarking and award submittals
  • Project Delivery: performs the following in collaboration with the Director of Sustainability and project teams:
  • Conduct client research and outline clear, complete and concise scope of sustainability work for projects.
  • Plan and lead sustainability brainstorming and kickoff meetings for projects to develop sustainability goals, strategies, and plan for execution through construction in conjunction with the project team & Client.
  • Support the execution of sustainability scope for assigned projects, including creation of client presentation materials, technical reviews and research, and feedback on design documents and specifications.
  • Assist with third-party sustainability certification management, including initial brainstorming and scorecard creation, consultant oversight and coordination, technical reviews of drawings and specifications, and creation of documentation and administration of project certification as applicable.
  • Support teams with internal tracking and documentation of sustainability strategies on all projects.
  • Guide Architects and Designers through usage of preliminary sustainability analysis tools.
  • Conduct detailed sustainability modeling (such as LCAs) as requested by Director.
  • Performs tasks with a high level of collaboration and sets an example for others to follow.
  • Establishes and pursues annual goals based on personal, professional and company growth in the industry.
  • Contributes to Ryan culture through participation in office activities, initiatives and learning programs.
  • Direct, Supervise and mentor junior staff.
  • Responsible for developing relationships and representing Ryan A+E's sustainability brand with the local design and sustainability community including USGBC, AIA, and other professional organizations.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Design, Building Science, Sustainable Design, Interior Design, or related field; Bachelor required, or Master preferred.
  • Graduate level research preferred.
  • Relevant professional work experience with a proven record of sustainable design.
  • Architectural or Engineering licensure preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong individual drive and self-starter.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with and lead a diverse team with proven track record of managing or producing sustainability-related scope on projects.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable design practices, Building Information Modeling (BIM), construction practices, and building operations.
  • Bluebeam and Revit knowledge required.
  • Experience with sustainability program management and tools including but not limited to:
  • Preliminary energy analysis modeling (Cove.Tool, Sefaira, Ladybug/Honebee, other);
  • Performing whole-building life cycle assessments (LCAs)
  • Managing green building program evaluations and documentation such as LEED, WELL, International Living Futures Institute (ILFI), Passive House (PHI/PHIUS), and/or B3 (Minnesota).
  • Familiarity with building performance standards and green building codes such as the International Green Construction Code (IgCC)
  • At least one green building rating system credential required (LEED AP, WELL AP, LFA, etc.)

Eligibility:

  • Positions require verification of employment eligibility to work in the U.S.

Compensation:

The salary range is $95,000 - 115,000 per year. The base salary may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.
