What You'll Do

The Project Engineering Line Supervisor provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight to a team of Project Engineers that are responsible for the design deliverables and construction support on production, infrastructure, security, commercial, and planning projects. The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, flow down of goals, performance reviews, time card approvals, setting priorities/expectations, and integrating work within the supervised organization. The Supervisor will monitor department workload to ensure staff is cognizant of schedule and technical commitments as well as to advise management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. The Supervisor will lead Project Engineers in the development of budgets, proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and related documents required to meet project needs.

Develops and provides qualified technical resources to execute Project Engineering functions in support of Y-12 mission deliverables. Maintains a staff with knowledge and ability to serve as primary contacts for mission engineering on CNS projects. Staff will direct multi-disciplined design engineering teams in the development of engineering design deliverables and for resolving design issues related to projects. May also be required to assist in major procurement efforts associated with project work.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Science/Information Technology discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABETplus a minimum of 5 years relevant project engineering experience.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Preferred Job Requirements

Master of Science in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. A Professional Engineering License (PE) ispreferred but not required.



  • Knowledgeableof Y-12 business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish work
  • Skills in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, personnel management and design management
  • Technical expertise and full knowledge of related engineering systems, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineeringdisciplines
  • Ability to read, and/or interpret complex engineeringdrawings
  • Ability to conduct formal presentations to plant personnel and other interestedparties
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and writtenword
