POSITION SUMMARY The Groundskeeper under direct supervision performs duties in grounds maintenance and reports to the Grounds Foreman. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cares for trees and shrubs including trimming and watering;
- Cares for lawns including mowing, gardening, weeding, edging, trimming, cleaning, raking, and fertilizing;
- Cares for flower beds, watering, pruning, and adding chemicals;
- Picks up and transports refuse, brush, and other unwanted material to dump sites;
- Cleans parking lots including filling potholes with black top;
- Snow and ice removal;
- Performs minor cleaning and repair of groundskeeping equipment, such as checking oil, lubrication, cleaning, and safety items;
- Provides assistance for moves and set-ups as needed;
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of planting and care of trees, shrubbery, and grass;
- Ability to communicate effectively, and follow detailed oral and written instructions;
- Ability to operate hand tools and equipment used in groundskeeping fields such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, shears, shovels, spades, etc.;
- Knowledge of the repair and installation of sprinkler systems;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license.
- Must complete a defensive driving course (paid by the employer).
- Be willing to obtain a pre-employment physical (paid by the employer).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Working Conditions

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
