JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State, one of the top public universities in the country with almost 75,000 undergraduates and more than 788,000 alumni across the world, is seeking a Part-Time Admissions Representative to support the Undergraduate Admissions Office in Florida.

The Part-Time Admissions Representative position will be responsible for attending and representing Penn State Undergraduate Admissions at college fairs and high schools in their area. Ideal candidates will provide outstanding customer service to prospective students and families and serve as a friendly source of information for those interested in attending any Penn State undergraduate campus. This role will report to the Assistant Director of Recruitment and work collaboratively with the regional admissions counselor for the area, other admission colleagues, and local alumni clubs and volunteers to provide the highest quality recruitment and customer service to assist Penn State with achieving its enrollment goals.

Position Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate closely with the Undergraduate Admissions team and support recruitment efforts that help achieve the goals and strategies outlined by the Admissions Office.
  • Be knowledgeable in all areas related to the admissions process at Penn State, which includes being able to share information about Penn State campuses, 275 academic programs, and the application and enrollment process.
  • Work in a front-facing capacity to recruit prospective students and families via in-person or virtual high school visits and in-person college fairs. High school visits take place during the school day, while college fairs take place during the school day, at night, and on the weekend, so after hours and weekend work are a requirement of the position.
  • Be willing to assist Penn State Admissions Counselors or the Undergraduate Admissions Office with other events or special projects as needed.
  • Commit to working recruitment events that typically run from September through November in the fall and February through June in the spring. During heavy recruitment season, representatives will average approximately 10-15 hours of work a week.
  • Be flexible with the schedule --- while fall and spring offer more hours, this position requires minimal work over the winter and summer months, but it does include training over those periods to prepare for upcoming recruitment. Travel to the University Park campus could be a possibility in the summer months.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position should also:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Be a people-person, which includes possessing excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and a strong ability and desire to connect with prospective students and families.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service skills to effectively communicate with prospective students and their families about the admissions process and their options.
  • Have a strong work ethic, as well as a passion for helping students find their perfect college fit (even if it isn't Penn State!)
  • Excel in an environment where they work independently by being accountable and require little supervision.
  • Have strong technical skills and understand the value of utilizing technology to effectively perform job functions.
  • Be able to travel to required high schools and other locations, pack and carry supplies and materials, as well as stand for up to 3 hours at events.
  • Be able to operate a motor vehicle, have a valid driver's license, and successfully complete a motor vehicle records check and standard background checks.

Salary $20.00/hour
