THE POSITION

This position allows you to collaborate with mental health providers, law enforcement, and the judicial system to provide training and support for individuals under involuntary commitment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a County Caseworker 3, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the mental health commitment process, including scheduling hearings, ensuring compliance with policies, and handling required documentation. Work involves securing copies of commitment forms from hospitals and courts as well as assessing involuntary commitment calls for approval or denial of a 302 warrant. You will have the opportunity to serve as a liaison between the department and outside providers to ensure commitment processes are in compliance with established policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining on-call schedule
  • Providing training to the community and providers and educating them regarding available services
  • Developing strategies to support individual recovery
  • Assisting with disaster preparedness, special interventions, and stress debriefing
  • Coordinating with the Sherriff Department for transports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. On call delegate shifts as needed.
  • Telework: After completion of the probationary period, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Kittanning.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Caseworker 2; or
  • A bachelor's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and three years of professional social casework experience in a public or private social services agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
