About the Department
North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine (NC State CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing biomedical scientists veterinarians, and veterinarian scientists, while advancing human health and animal from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.

The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences at the NC State CVM trains graduate students, veterinarians, and postdoctoral fellows in research-based careers focused on discovering new information about animal and human health and disease and using those findings to enhance human and animal health and wellbeing.
Essential Job Duties
The Zhang Group conducts pioneering research in tissue healing, drug delivery, and 3D bioprinting. The group also explores innovative therapeutic approaches, including biomaterial-based treatments, to improve disease management and contribute to better care and treatment options for both humans and animals.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Obtain all necessary training and certifications for working with animal and human subjects.
  • Synthesize chemicals according to established protocols and techniques.
  • Develop familiarity with the lab's biomaterials research and its potential clinical or real-world applications through hands-on training and active participation in laboratory processes.
  • Manage ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies. Accurately document laboratory methods and results in an online laboratory notebook.
  • Assist with manuscript and grant writing as needed.
  • Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized research equipment.


Preferred skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical and analytical skills in biomedical research, preferably in biomaterials and drug delivery.
  • Experience in purification techniques such as column chromatography and/or HPLC, and in the characterization of chemical compounds.
  • Experience with cell culture and/or animal studies.
  • Experience with inhaled drug delivery.
  • Ability to facilitate collaboration with public health experts, social scientists, and/or community organizations to identify novel research pathways that bridge the gap between lab-based biomedical research and complex real-world health needs.
  • Provide guidance and expertise in qualitative methods, ethnographic research, and qualitative or mixed-method study design, particularly related to adapting and implementing novel clinical strategies for treating various human health conditions.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor's degree, or substantive relevant independent experience and education. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Possess strong verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Possess strong writing skills.
  • Be able to multitask and work independently with a high level of initiative.
  • Have a track record of collaboration, productivity, and accomplishment in a team environment.
  • A high level of motivation and organization.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in organic/polymer chemistry preferred.
  • Experience working with rodents preferred.
  • Experience with cell culture preferred.
  • Experience with microscopy preferred
