The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott Campus is currently recruiting for a Director of Aviation Safety to join the College of Aviation (COA). The Director of Aviation Safety will lead the Aviation Safety Program for the Prescott Campus COA; the person will coordinate with and assist the Flight Training Department in the development, implementation, and maintenance of aviation safety programs with a focus on the preservation of human, material, and financial resources while maintaining maximum operational effectiveness. In addition, the Director of Aviation Safety will assume organization investigator responsibilities for any accident or incident which is reportable under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 830, as amended, and represent the Prescott Campus under the party participant provisions of Title 49 of the CFR, Part 831, as amended.

The COA Director of Aviation Safety has the following authority:

  • Define Prescott Campus investigation and reporting procedures for aviation hazards, incidents, accidents, and related data collection.
  • Develop the necessary forms and instructions for implementing COA aviation safety programs, initiatives, and the Safety Management System, as applicable.
  • Define and promote the reporting of any aviation safety related event.
  • Conduct investigation of aviation safety events and hazards.
  • Recommend to the Dean, COA the grounding of any flight student or flight instructor pilot involved in safety event which is under investigation by the COA Aviation Safety Department.
  • Conduct aviation safety inspections/audits of campus flight-related operations, facilities, or contractor providing flight-related services.
  • Represent Prescott Campus regarding aviation safety matters interfacing with government agencies and professional organizations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required in directly related aviation area of study
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook

Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

  • FAA Certificated Flight Instructor/Instrument CFI, CFII, MEI, Airplane Single and Multiengine; Instrument Airplane.
  • Must be able to obtain TSA clearance.
