Responsibilities

We are actively seeking a highly qualified and experienced Mission Systems Instructor and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team supporting the prestigious U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School (USAF TPS) at Edwards AFB, CA. This critical role involves the development and delivery of the comprehensive Mission Systems curriculum for future flight and space test professionals. The in-residence course is conducted twice annually, leveraging dedicated state-of-the-art facilities on base.

The curriculum provides specialized education across a broad spectrum of modern aircraft and space vehicle systems, including but not limited to: weapons systems, electro-optics, radar, electronic warfare, communications systems, and other integrated mission systems.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development & Delivery: Develop, update, and deliver comprehensive and engaging classroom, laboratory, and open-air instruction focusing on advanced mission systems topics such as optical sensors, radar principles and techniques, communications systems, electronic warfare concepts and application, weapons integration and testing, and cyber security/operations as they relate to test and evaluation.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a primary Subject Matter Expert for Mission Systems, providing expert advice and guidance. Act on behalf of the Mission Systems Technical Expert as required.
  • Collaborative Enhancement: Work closely with the USAF TPS curriculum development team to continuously enhance the Mission Systems course content, ensuring it remains aligned with the latest advancements in flight and space technology and current operational test practices.
  • Logistical Coordination: Coordinate with USAF TPS staff and relevant customer organizations to ensure all logistical and administrative support requirements for course execution are meticulously planned and successfully implemented for each class.
  • Student Evaluation: Develop and administer effective evaluations and assessments to accurately gauge student comprehension and progress. Provide constructive feedback to students to facilitate their professional growth and development in test and evaluation disciplines.
  • Test & Evaluation Guidance: Leverage extensive DoD Test and Evaluation experience to provide instruction and guidance on test planning, test conduct, data analysis, and test reporting methodologies specifically tailored for mission systems.
  • Specific System Instruction: Provide instruction on the principles, operation, and testing of specific tactical mission systems, which may include tactical radars (e.g., AESA, SAR, GMTI), Helmet Mounted Displays (HMDs)/Cueing Systems, integrated avionics architectures, data links (e.g., Link 16), Electronic Attack (EA) and Electronic Protection (EP) techniques, and precision guided munitions integration.
  • Flight Test Integration Instruction: Incorporate instruction on the complexities of integrating mission systems onto aircraft and testing their performance and interaction within the dynamic flight environment.
  • Mission Data Analysis Instruction: Instruct on the analysis of flight test data specifically related to mission system performance, accuracy, and reliability, including the analysis of sensor data, weapons release parameters, and electronic warfare effectiveness.
  • Test Planning & Reporting for Mission Systems: Provide detailed instruction on developing test plans and reports specifically for mission systems, including defining appropriate test objectives, measures of effectiveness/performance (MOE/MOP), and documenting system deficiencies.
  • Operational Context Integration: Integrate the operational context and tactical employment of mission systems into instructional content to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of system relevance and testing requirements.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall educational mission of the USAF Test Pilot School.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in DoD Test and Evaluation, with a strong focus on mission systems.
  • Thorough working knowledge and practical experience with DoD Test and Evaluation processes within major acquisition programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and application of test measures and advanced test techniques relevant to mission systems.
  • Proven experience in delivering professional instruction or training to technical audiences.
  • Deep expertise in Mission Systems, with relevant experience supporting the test of air or space systems as an engineer, analyst, or operator.
  • Experience in both flight and space domains is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience and comfort briefing technical and leadership personnel at all levels.
  • Graduation from a recognized Test Pilot School (USAF, USN, Empire, EPNER) is highly preferred.
  • Specific experience with Space Systems test and evaluation is desired.
  • Experience providing professional instruction at a recognized educational institution is desired.

Education:

  • Master's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field may be considered with additional commensurate experience.

Clearance:

  • Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) access is required.

Work Schedule:

  • Full Time or Part Time options available. Work on site at Edwards AFB is required.

Travel:

  • Occasional travel may be required to support course objectives or related activities.

U.S. Citizenship is required

The pay range for this position in California is $170,000/year to $240,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
