We will count on you to provide professional interior design work by assisting in the programming, design, and documentation of proposed furniture layouts, drawings, and related interior design tasks for county departments.

About Us

As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County, the Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of more than 200 facilities, comprising over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management is made up of a collaborative team that provides and performs various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments. Our broad range of services includes various aspects of the ongoing operations and maintenance of all County-owned facilities, management of all facility projects, and in-house design services.

The Design and Construction Division is made up of a multi-talented team providing construction, architectural, and design services to meet the functional needs of Maricopa County Departments.

We Require

  • Two years of professional-level work experience as an Architect, Architectural Designer, Interior Designer, or Interior Design Assistant

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a closely related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoDesk AutoCAD (2018 edition or higher) computer-aided design and drafting software

  • Bachelor's degree from a Council for Interior Design (CIDA) accredited interior design program

  • Certification in Interior Design from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Membership in the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), or American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)

  • Design experience with Herman Miller modular furniture systems

  • Proficiency in furniture specifying software such as Project Matrix or CET Configura, Sketch-up, and Adobe Creative Suite

Job Contributions

  • Engages stakeholders and end-users from county departments to program the requested scope of a furniture request

  • Identifies budgetary parameters for desired furniture scope and develops design options to be conveyed through furniture layout drawings to stakeholders and end-users

  • Reviews archived as-built and record drawings of existing facilities, in which proposed furniture scopes are requested, and supplements such information as required with self-performed field-surveys, dimensioning, and photographic documentation

  • Researches potential furniture products and materials needed for the implementation of proposed design solutions, gathered from the county's used inventory or new products purchased from contracted county vendors, prepares corresponding inventory reservations, and solicits vendor quotes for purchase

  • Collaborates with Facilities Management architecture team, designers, Warehouse/Inventory Specialists, Project Managers, Estimators, and the Operations and Maintenance personnel in the programming, design, cost estimating, and preparation of furniture drawings for requested projects

  • Prepares finish presentations for review and approval of FMD leadership and end-users from various county departments

  • Assists stakeholders and end-users from county departments, Project Managers, and contracted consultants in assessing and making recommendations for furniture, finishes, and equipment selections on approved projects

  • Assists Senior Architect/Designer and Construction Division Manager with updates of department finish sample boards and internal product library

  • Assists the Drawing and Documents Manager with preparations and archiving of project closeout documents after completion of each furniture installation

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

  • Position is typically office or administrative work with exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, respiratory hazards, wildlife, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises

  • Must possessor have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's licenseby the time of hire

  • Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) background investigation to access County detention facilities
