Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid. Nisga'a CIOPS provides hands-on experienced services to civilian and DoD programs worldwide. Delivering highly skilled, cleared personnel who provide services on five continents for a portfolio of customers. Summary: The Senior IT Systems Administrator the provide comprehensive hands-on and remote technical support for U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and affiliated non-standard IT systems. This role involves the configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of hardware and network infrastructure, including routers, switches, VPNs, public announcement (PA) systems, and telecommunications equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expert-level knowledge of network operations, systems integration, and IT security protocols while supporting mission-critical systems in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This position is a temporary role with an initial duration of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide direct and remote technical support for local and remote USCG network environments, including both standard and non-standard systems.
- Troubleshoot, reconfigure, and repair hardware and software issues involving routers, switches, VPNs, and telecommunications systems.
- Manage and maintain public announcement (PA) systems across designated facilities.
- Monitor system performance and implement necessary patches, updates, and configurations to ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
- Collaborate with federal and contractor personnel to support system upgrades, installations, and integrations.
- Document all support actions, configurations, and changes according to established USCG procedures and security guidelines.
- Ensure secure communication pathways through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), firewalls, and encryption tools.
- Assist with the development and implementation of system policies and procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance and system health checks on critical IT infrastructure.
- Provide training and guidance to junior administrators or end users as needed.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), firewall configurations, and network segmentation.
- Experience with both Microsoft and Linux-based environments.
- Strong experience with remote troubleshooting tools and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (may be substituted with equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in systems/network administration, including maintenance of routers, switches, and VPN technologies.
- IAT (Information Assurance Technical) Level II Certification
- Such as CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+, CND, or SSCP
- Exceptional communication and customer service
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Valid DOD SECRET clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), DoD, or DHS mission environments.
- MCSA, RHCSA, Server+, CCT, LPIC-1, CCNA, VCP-DCV, CISSP, CISM, or other related certification
