Job Description

This role offers a range of $24 to $36 per hour. Actual compensation will be based on qualifications such as experience, education, certifications, and skills, as well as geographic considerations.

Assists in maintaining the facility and mechanical equipment by performing installation, repairs, and adjustments as directed by the Maintenance Manager. Follows original manufacturer's specifications or by the department's approved procedures on an "as needed" or "scheduled repair" basis, using the most suitable and efficient tools for the respective tasks. Supports testing of machinery on which repairs or adjustments are made and ensures that the machinery is in proper and safe working condition. Works with the manufacturing or laboratory operators to review their finished work to establish that the repair, adjustment or installation is suitable for its end use. You will be responsible to:

Utilizes learned knowledge (through practical experience and/or schooling) to do the following in a safe and sufficient manner.

  • Assists with repairing and maintaining physical structure of establishment using basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing and roofing in a manner suitable for the area in question.
  • Assists with installing, programming, or repairing automated machinery and equipment.
    1. Observes, checks and helps tests machinery and equipment. Listens for unusual sounds to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisor or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machine.
    2. Helps dismantle defective machines and equipment. Examines texture and form of parts to detect imperfections. Assists in inspecting used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
    3. Assists with welding, brazing, silver soldering, torching, plasma, tempering, annealing, and resurfacing defective machine components, in a condition suitable for the repair in question. Learns to examine and support testing of parts to ensure for adequate strength and proper tolerance prior to installation.
    4. Assists in operating machining equipment such as lathes, end mills, and surface grinders to fabricate, repair and/or modify components used on ink processing equipment within reasonable tolerances. Learns to select and use proper fastener for assembling machinery and equipment to provide proper fit, strength, and safety. Helps operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. Supports set up of drill presses, welding, cutting, threading, and pressing tools to perform their respective functions.
    5. Assists with installing new or repaired parts. Helps replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
    6. Assists in repairing leaks by use of proper gasketing, gluing, tightening or welding as required by the specifications related to the piping system.
  • Installation
    1. Assists with installing and repairing electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
    2. Assists with installing piping systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment in accordance with design drawings, specifications and by a basic knowledge of the product requirement. Learns to identify proper material for product compatibility and pipe schedule to handle the working pressures of the fluids or gases. Helps label and inspect finished work to ensure that the operator has a working knowledge of the piping circuit.
    3. Assists with aligning machines and equipment (using hoists, jacks, lift trucks, levels, transits, plumb bobs, rules, squares and other related tools) to assure proper alignment and position.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Calibration
    1. Supports necessary mechanical preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment as required by the preventative maintenance program, by greasing, aligning, tightening, replacing, changing, and or calibrating.
    2. Assists with calibration procedures in accordance to the calibration manual and documents the findings accordingly.
    3. Supports the maintenance and repair of facility equipment in the areas of HVAC systems, mechanical refrigeration, fire systems, water and sewer networks, engine powered support equipment, air compressors, and chemical treatments; in accordance to manufactures or engineering specifications.
  • Other
    1. Assists with fabricating and repairing counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures. Helps construct foundations and frames for machines using hand tools, and materials such as wood, cement and steel.
    2. Supports the duties of the Electrical Maintenance personnel when time permits.
      1. Attends all in-house training classes, which are associated with the department and the company's needs. Is willing to attend training classes located outside of the work area (vendor or vocational schools) that are related to the service responsibilities of the department.
      2. Able to become proficient in first aid response, tank entry, spill response, and other interdepartmental support programs.
      3. Supports "after hour" on call support to respond to manufacturing, laboratory, and / or facility equipment problems, and to repair or replace the troubled device.
      4. Interacts with the department and internal customers to prioritize the daily workloads. Assists in establishing short term planning, manning requirements, scheduling of events, and the review of materials and tools required to perform these tasks.
      5. Assists in getting approvals for the release of repaired equipment in conjunction with the coordinator(s) based on both a visual and physical test inspection of all related safety features, including safety control circuits, and mechanical and /or electro-mechanical shutoffs.
      6. Is responsible for making sure his or her repairs and quality checks are performed and released. Maintains a clean and safe work area during and after installation and repairs.
Qualifications

To perform your job as expected, you will be required to:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of both
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and /or schematic including electrical drawings to determine the proper work procedures, assembly requirements and tolerances needed to perform the task satisfactory.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
